On Wednesday 13 May, Year 8 Visual Arts students enjoyed an inspiring excursion to Sydney Zoo Aquarium as part of their Marine Life topic this term.

With a focus on the bull shark, students had the opportunity to observe this powerful marine predator up close and use it as inspiration for their artwork.

A highlight was seeing students sketch sharks at the aquarium, using direct observation to build their understanding of form, detail and movement.

Students were engaged and excited throughout the day, taking time to observe the shapes, textures, movement and features of different creatures. The visit encouraged them to connect with the natural world as they explored the many wonders of marine life, along with other animals across the zoo.

Students also participated in the culturally enriching Bungarribee Dreaming workshop, where they learnt about Indigenous culture, practical weaving
techniques and bush survival skills.

The drawings produced during the excursion will support students as they continue developing their ideas back in the classroom, helping them infuse their
artworks with a sense of life and energy.

📱💻 Online Safety Spotlight: Image Based Abuse

Young people deal with a range of issues online, including the pressure to send ‘n**es’ or online sexual harassment.

Sexual extortion is when someone is threatening to share a n**e or sexual image/video of you unless you give into their demands.

Three weeks on from Year 7 Camp, it has been wonderful to see the confidence, friendships and sense of belonging that students continue to bring back into school life.

As part of Year 7’s transition into Ku-ring-gai High School, students took part in a three-day wellbeing camp at The Great Aussie Bush Camp, Kincumber. Across activities including archery, rock climbing, canoeing, the giant swing, mud run, high ropes, leap of faith and challenge night, students had the opportunity to challenge themselves, support one another and build positive connections with their peers, teachers and Year 10 Peer Support Leaders.

Camp is an important milestone in helping students feel known, valued and cared for as they begin high school. These experiences strongly support student wellbeing, resilience, inclusion and belonging, key priorities across NSW public education.

A huge congratulations to Year 7 for giving everything a go and encouraging each other throughout camp. We are proud of the way students represented Ku-ring-gai High School and the energy they have brought back into our school community.

Congratulations to Billy K, who has been selected as part of the Ryde Hawks Baseball Intermediate League team to represent NSW at the Australian Intermediate League Championships in Lismore.

Billy plays locally for the Stealers Baseball and Softball Club, who recently hosted the State Championships at Golden Jubilee Field. At this event, Billy competed as part of the Ryde Hawks team, which won the State Championships!

The National Championships run from 21 to 25 May, with the winning team progressing to represent Australia at the Intermediate League World Series in Livermore, California.

This is an outstanding achievement, made even more impressive by the fact that this is Billy’s third consecutive year being selected to compete at this level.

We wish Billy and the Ryde Hawks team all the very best for the tournament. What a fantastic achievement and a proud moment for Billy, his family, his club and our school community.

Ku-ring-gai High School is incredibly proud of our alumni, Luke Rutherford-Durney, whose designs featured on the runway at the MCA during this year's Australia's Fashion Week. Luke's unique approach to fashion, creating not just garments but immersive, conceptual stories blending myth and radical modernity, is truly inspiring.

We are blown away by his creativity and craftsmanship and can't wait to see where his journey takes him next.
