Yesterday, I participated in 8 to create at Maitland Regional Gallery. My inspiration was Rew Hanks’ If I Only Had a Heart (scroll through to the last photo to see it). Hanks’ artist statement for the work discusses the ‘protection’ of the armour in the tinman/Ned Kelly mash up represented in the print and the perceived invulnerability that we attach to the character within the armour. I chose to approach it quite literally, seeing the hard exterior as (for want of a better term) historical masculinity and bringing some softness with a rounded collar and heart shaped buttons replacing the rivets on the front of the body shield. I believe historical masculinity can be softened through the arts and conversation. What do you think?

It’s the first Christmas market of the season this afternoon at Huntlee.

Come along and start your Christmas shopping with hand made unique gifts from a host of local makers and growers.

I’ve been working to make some beautiful mugs they’ll reach for again and again, tiny vases for single stems and tiny posies and a range of gorgeous jewellery.

4pm on the green between Coles and Wine Country Drive.
