Earlier this week we were delighted to deliver a Retirement Living Seminar in collaboration with the Office For Ageing Well and South Australian Retirement Villages Residents Association (SARVRA)

We wanted to share some of the seminar highlights:
✅ Bringing together community members for an engaging, informative morning centered on peer learning and lived experience.

✅ Delivered insights and practical guidance, equipping attendees to make confident, informed decisions about moving into a retirement village.

✅ The open, supportive environment allowed for an active Q&A session, giving participants the opportunity to have their specific questions answered by knowledgeable peers.

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
Everyone deserves independence, inclusion & dignity.

As populations age, more people with disabilities are growing older, and many older persons develop disabilities later in life.
This overlap calls for closer coordination between efforts on ageing and disability, especially in areas such as protection, care, and community-based support, all of which are essential to addressing elder abuse.

Elder abuse remains widely under-recognised and under-reported.
It can take many forms, including physical, psychological, and financial abuse, as well as neglect.

It often occurs in situations where individuals lack visibility, support, or access to services. Addressing this issue requires more than raising awareness. It calls for stronger systems that can prevent abuse and respond effectively when it happens, while respecting the dignity, independence, and rights of older persons.

it is a great time to look out for each other.

The colder months can bring unique challenges, from isolation to higher energy costs.

Here are three ways you can make a difference in our community right now:
✅ Check in on your neighbors: A quick chat or a simple "Are you warm and safe?" goes a long way.

✅ Donate winter essentials: Consider donating blankets, jackets, or non-perishable goods to local shelters and community pantries.

✅ Look after yourself: Shorter days can take a toll on mental health.

To our incredible LGBTIQA+ communities across Adelaide and South Australia,
🙏 Thank you for your strength, kindness, pride, and connection.
We’re honored to walk alongside you 💜

Over the past 12 months we’ve:
🌈 continued providing social connection opportunities for older LGBTIQA+ community members
🌈 delivered inclusive practice training across the aged care and community sectors
🌈 and spent time reflecting, listening, and developing new ideas for future training and community education opportunities

This year has also been an important opportunity for us to take stock of how
inclusion education continues to evolve and how we can better
support organisations, workers, and communities into the future.

We’re excited about the next stage of this work, with new training and community initiatives currently in development for release over the coming year 🌈

Catalyst Foundation acknowledges that reconciliation is an ongoing journey and while generations of Australians have fought hard for meaningful change, future gains are likely to take just as much, if not more, effort.

Today, thousands of people celebrate the week in workplaces, schools, early learning services and communities around the country.
