To celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in June 1953, Gympie held a mile long procession of floats and marchers, including representatives from Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club on their adorned float complete with sailing boat. The procession proceeded through the main streets before assembling in Albert Park where the crowd of 8000 pledged their loyalty to the young Queen.

Today marks the start of National Reconciliation Week (NRW) which runs Wednesday 27 May to Wednesday 3 June. Held each year on these dates, this year the theme is ‘All In'.

NRW is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Libraries are important places of inclusion and learning for communities, where diverse experiences and perspectives are celebrated and shared.

So many awesome things to look forward to this Reconciliation Week! 🤩

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and reflect on how each of us can contribute to reconciliation.

This year’s theme, All In, is a reminder that reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility. It asks all of us to step forward, listen, learn and take action, not just during this week, but every day.

Heritage Noosa was developed by Noosa Libraries for the community, to provide a collaborative place for people to discover and tell the story of the Noosa Council region.

It was launched on this day 5 years ago with 1500 images and has since grown to a collection of over 27,000 photos, oral histories, videos and digitised memorabilia! Did you know you can add your own memories to each photo or even add your own photos! Thanks for joining us on the journey so far, and here's to the next 5 years!
