On Monday the 17th of June, Fountain Gate Secondary College held its annual VCE Careers and Pathways Showcase. Twenty-seven institutes set up in the gymnasium from higher education, TAFE and job service providers to offer students and parents with pathway options, booklets, gift bags and presentations. This included representatives from major Universities, Defence Australia, Victorian Police and local community groups.
It was amazing to see a lot of younger students attending the evening and taking the initiative to learn about the range of opportunities and possibilities available to them. We had students discover new potential pathways and passions, asking a range of mature and sophisticated questions to gauge a better understanding of their future pathways. Many students used this opportunity to discover their ‘what’s next’ whilst thinking about their pre-requisite studies for upcoming course counselling days and post-secondary school choices.
Following the showcase were multiple Pathway Presentations hosted by the Careers and Pathways Team and included guest speakers from our Alliance school, Hallam Secondary College and Headstart. This was attended by the Year 10 cohort to inform them on where they can take their studies next year, the subjects offered and how they can utilise the College’s relationship with Hallam Secondary College and Gleneagles Secondary College to fully gauge the breadths of subjects offered.
Additionally, our Alumni Presentation ran by Alumni Co-ordinator Ms. Gonzales and assisted by this year’s school Alumni Leader, Farishta Hussaini, welcomed Alisha Keyzer ’98, Megan Mulhall ’10, Dominique Cuschieri ’15 and Liam Sell ’16 who shared their post Year 12 stories. All presenters spoke highly of the College and reflected on the lessons they learned while at Fountain Gate Secondary College. The speakers spoke independently about the importance of mentors, a work-life balance and building a positive relationship with your teachers
We would like to thank everyone who supported the event. The feedback from students and the stall holders was absolutely fantastic and extremely positive We look forward to the knowledge and feedback being reflected in the career counselling that students undertake in Term 3 and 4. We cannot wait for the 2020 VCE Careers and Pathways Showcase. See you next year!
