LOCAL LEGEND
๐Ÿ’™ Congratulations to Samantha Brearley, CVJFC 2026 recipient of the Darryl โ€œJackโ€ Burton Memorial Volunteer of the Year Award.

Since Darrylโ€™s untimely passing, this annual award honours an individual who makes an outstanding contribution to the Chapman Valley Football Club โ€” someone who goes above and beyond, demonstrates dedication and leadership, and helps create the positive culture and community spirit that make the football club so special.
Jack was the epitome of a volunteer. There was nothing he would not do for his Club, and this award proudly recognises that same selfless commitment in others.
This award recognises a club member who goes above and beyond โ€” showing the dedication, leadership and community spirit that Jack Burton represented so proudly.

For the past seven years, Sam has been a cornerstone of our Junior Football community. From serving on the Junior and Senior Committees, representing the Club as our GNJFL Delegate, and managing the vital role of Junior Registrar, to organising functions and keeping the canteen running when help was most needed โ€” Sam has always put her hand up.

As Samโ€™s final year on the Junior Committee comes to a close, we thank her for the enormous impact she has made on our players, families, volunteers and Club. We also thank her family, who continue to follow her wonderful example by always being ready to help.

๐Ÿ’™ Thank you, Sam โ€” a true Loyal Royal and a very deserving Local Legend! ๐Ÿ’™

Join us as we celebrate a remarkable local milestoneโ€”100 years of Naraling Hall.

Built in 1926 as the Naraling Church Hall, this much-loved stone building has stood through a century of faith, farming, friendship, sport, celebration and resilience. While much of the former Naraling townsite has disappeared, the hall remains a powerful reminder of the people, families and community spirit that shaped this part of the Chapman Valley.

Constructed from local stone by stonemason Bob Salmon, the Foundation Stone was laid on 21st August, with the Naraling Hall was officially opened on 27 November 1926. Over the years, it has welcomed church services, Sunday School, dances, concerts, meetings, farewells, sporting celebrations and countless shared meals and conversations.

Located near the former school, tennis courts and sports oval, the hall was at the centre of community lifeโ€”bringing together generations of farming families, schoolchildren, volunteers, churchgoers and sportspeople.

Despite population changes, the fading of the townsite and significant damage during Cyclone Seroja in 2021, Naraling Hall has endured. Its restoration reflects the communityโ€™s commitment to ensuring this special place continues to tell Naralingโ€™s story for generations to come.

๐Ÿ“… Saturday 19 September 2026
๐Ÿ“ Naraling Hall
๐Ÿ•‘ From 2.00 pm until sundown

Enjoy afternoon tea and nostalgia, the unveiling of the mural and Heritage Trail, story sharing, tree planting, and a sundowner with BYO drinks, food provided and a historic light show.
Bring your family, friends and memories as we honour our past and celebrate our futureโ€”together.

Thank you to Lotterywest, FABCV & Shire of Chapman Valley for funding this event.๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿ“ข Important Update: Nabawa Refuse Site
From Tuesday, 1 September 2026, the Nabawa Refuse Site will operate with an onsite Refuse Site Attendant during all opening hours.
The site will continue to be open:
๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Wednesdays and Sundays
๐Ÿ•ฃ 8.30am to 4.00pm
All Chapman Valley ratepayers must bring and present their valid Tip Pass at every visit. Tip Passes are issued with Shire Rate Notices and help ensure the subsidised facility is available to Shire residents and ratepayers.
To help households keep costs to a minimum, the Shire has made provision for three free visits to the Nabawa Refuse Site for eligible Chapman Valley ratepayers. Clean, separated green waste will also remain free for eligible ratepayers who present a valid Tip Pass.

Why are fees being introduced?
Waste management services cost the Shire close to $500,000 per year to operate. Council currently recovers approximately half of this amount through existing fees and charges, with the balance funded through Shire revenue.
The new user-pays tip fees will help cover the cost of introducing and operating the manned Nabawa Refuse Site, which was supported through feedback received in the Shireโ€™s 2025 community survey.
Recovering all refuse-service costs through general rates would require an estimated 7% rate increase, over and above normal rate and cost increases. Council has instead chosen a user-pays approach so that a portion of the cost is paid by those using the service, rather than being passed equally to all ratepayers, including those who may rarely or never use the site.

What to remember before visiting
โœ… Bring your Tip Pass and an EFTPOS card โ€” no cash is held onsite
โœ… Secure your load before travelling and while on site
โœ… Report to the attendantโ€™s office when you arrive
โœ… Separate green waste from general rubbish
โœ… Follow all site signage and directions from the Refuse Site Attendant
โœ… Keep children under 16 in the vehicle
โœ… Check that your waste is accepted before travelling
A new fee structure will apply after the three free visits have been used, with charges based on the type and volume of material being disposed of. The onsite Refuse Site Attendant will inspect loads, collect applicable fees, direct vehicles to disposal areas and help ensure the facility remains safe, compliant and well managed.
Please be patient and respectful as these new arrangements are introduced. The attendant is implementing Council decisions and applying Shire procedures, site licence requirements and safety rules.
For details on the fee schedule, the three free visits, Tip Pass requirements, accepted and prohibited materials, and public-holiday opening arrangements, please visit the Shireโ€™s Waste Management webpage or contact the Shire Office on (08) 9920 5011.
