SES Myrtleford Unit A volunteer community organisation, based in Myrtleford and supported by highly trained local members. For all other emergencies call 000.

The Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is a volunteer-based, professional emergency services organisation. We are here to ensure the safety of Victorian communities by responding to emergencies and disasters across the state. There are a variety of hands-on operational roles that our volunteers complete. Roles include:

•General rescue •Storm and flood response •Road rescue
•Urban search

and rescue •Rope rescue •Land search
•Swift water rescue •Traffic management. If you would like to volunteer with the SES Myrtleford Unit or would like more information please enquire online at www.ses.vic.gov.au. For initial information you are welcome to attend one of our training sessions on Wednesday nights from 7pm, held at SES Local Headquarters, 16 Jubilee Street (excluding January school holidays). Issued at 6:00 am EST on Thursday 18 June 2026

Where:
For people in parts of East Gippsland, North East and West and South Gippsland Forecast Districts.
Locations which may be affected include Falls Creek, Mt Hotham and Mt Buller.

When:
North to northwesterly winds have strengthened over the northeast ranges ahead of a trough and cold front that will move eastwards across the state during today and Friday.

Situation:
Strong north to northwesterly winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with damaging wind gusts of around 100 km/h are occurring over exposed areas of the northeast ranges and will continue through the rest of today, mainly at elevations above 1500 metres. Conditions are expected to ease by sunrise on Friday morning.

Severe weather is no longer occurring in the South West and Wimmera districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.

Impacts:
A 93 km/h wind gust was observed at Mt William at 2:37 am.
A 91 km/h wind gust was observed at Mt Buller at 2:24 am.

What you should do:
The Victoria State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible.
* Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.
* Be aware - heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it's windy or wet.
* Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Stay indoors and away from windows.
* If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways.
* Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live.
* Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. Heavy rainfall may also increase the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
* Stay informed: Monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency website/app/hotline.

The start of June saw Wangaratta host the Hume Regional VICSES Awards Ceremony.

The Region was able to recognise over 650 years of combined service, with awards issued for 5 to 50 Years of Service, along with National Medals and Clasps, and Excellence Awards.

Myrtleford SES is extremely proud to have had two volunteers receive awards recognising their years of service volunteering within our community in times of need. George McPherson received his 45 Years of Service Clasp and Julian Lamb received his 10 Years of Service Medal. These awards reflect the dedication and commitment that George and Julian have for the Myrtleford and surrounding community, congratulations to you both!

Today marks five-years since the devastating storms that hit Victoria in June 2021 – the busiest storm event in our service’s history.

VICSES received over 10,280 requests for assistance particularly for trees down, building damage, and flooding – all while navigating the challenging COVID-19 environment.

Thank you to all of our incredible volunteers for your response during this time. Our thoughts are with the impacted communities.
