I received an email this morning from the AEC advising that there are still jobs available and being actively recruited for the 2022 federal election.

If you have always thought about working at an election then here is your chance. The link to register your interest is in the picture below.

I supported the 2010 election at Australia's Embassy in Beijing as a polling assistant, and again in 2016 as Returning Officer at Australia's High Commission in Nicosia, Cyprus - no extra pay for me, but a great experience.

Have you/are you working for the federal election?

Good morning and welcome to a new week.

I am sure we are all aware that we have a Federal election due next month, and with elections come temporary job opportunities which could range from working on election day to pre or post activities.

If you would like to be a part of this, here is the link to register your interest.

Although the date of each federal election is not fixed in advance, the AEC needs to be ready to employ around 100,000 people right across Australia.

How is your Seek profile looking? Do you have one and is it current?

If you are seeking a new role (see what I did there?), then Seek's new proactive sourcing feature may put you before a hirer's eyes before the job is advertised.

Proactive sourcing is where companies develop a talent bank of potential candidates that they can draw on, often prior to a role being advertised.

This is not a new concept for Seek, but it is stepping up and changing from a jobs board only and providing hirers with streamlined ways to access candidate profiles that best meet their needs. Lots of AI tech here folks.

Just like your LinkedIn profile, your Seek profile will benefit from being up to date and regularly loved as this helps the algorithm know that your profile is current and not abandoned. There is no point showing an unloved profile to a recruiter or hirer.

If you need help updating your Seek or LinkedIn profile then just reach out. Free consultation can be booked via this link.

The chat will provide you with an opportunity to discuss the best way to work with Vibe Career Services.

Happy Chinese New Year! Xin Nian Kuai Le! (Mandarin)

My career took me to Beijing in late 2008 for what was three amazing, for all the right and wrong reasons, years. As a single mum to a then 11 year old it was a big step, yet also a very easy, and right one to make.

I still remember our first Chinese New Year/Spring Festival, two months after we arrived, so different to our western new year celebrations where thirty minutes of fireworks that we wait all night for was an enticing reason to see in midnight.

Firework stands were set up on every corner with what seemed like never ending supplies of crackers of all sorts of sizes and potency.

Once the firework display started, it didn’t stop for 15 days, all hours of the day and night, with no restrictions as to when and where the noise makers could be discharged.

Firecrackers aren’t just to display festivity, they represent an invitation for good luck, and from ancient times it was believed the noise scared away evil spirits.

This is the main time of the year for Chinese to celebrate – families come together, often travelling far across the country to re-unite. Airports, train stations, everywhere there is movement.

I am so grateful to have experienced three Spring Festivals during my time in China, even if it was an opportunity to slip out of Beijing or China over the extended break, it was still a special experience, and an incredible insight to the history of an ancient culture.

Once I would never have dreamed that my career would take me to the places it has, to the people and experiences. It did though, as this is all due to taking a step to understand what mattered to me, what my drivers were, daring to dream and step completely out of my comfort zone.

No matter what your career dreams are, whether they are to travel the world representing your country, or just to consistently leave work at 5pm each day, own those dreams, understand why they are important to you and be prepared to make a scary but motion driven step.

Where have your career dreams taken you?

What are your thoughts on a four day working week?

I think I would have been more surprised if this concept, handled well of course, could be anything but a success, for productivity, work life balance, company loyalty.

The majority of workers in Iceland now look set to move to shorter hours for the same pay.

There is a buzz in the air, the job market is jumping, the opportunities are landing.

We are refreshed and rearing to go for 2022 so are opening the books a few days early.

In fact we are already booked up for this week.

Yesterday was a huge day for Gabrielle - LinkedIn review, Mentoring session, Resume review and a hour walk through of a client's examples and history for an APS 5 Defence role.

Bookings for coaching and writing support can be made by emailing [email protected]

This was going to be a 2021 year in review post, and well I guess it is, just not from the original viewpoint.

I started looking back at client files, ready to pull together stats on success stories – interviews and job offers and was questioning why I haven’t kept this information already – I am a stats kinda girl after all.

My clients have absolutely smashed it this year, and I so want to celebrate how proud I am of their achievements and success. I didn’t want it to just be a post about how many of my clients got new jobs this year. Nice but clinical, and just not what I am about.

This is to you, all those whose paths we have crossed this year.

I want to celebrate seeing the change in confidence, even when you didn’t get the job offer, the clarity that a free 15 minute call made to your next steps. The tears and relief when job offers were made, the aha moments and the sense of empowerment that goes hand in hand and changes your viewpoint on what you have achieved. I am celebrating your internal self and the external goals.

In 2022, I will be keeping a record of my clients, but it will be the texts, 11pm messages and emails that I receive that shows me the journey we have been on together. The trust and connection, the personal growth that I witness as we work through all and any aspects of their working lives, that is what I want to measure.

Are you ready to create change?

With thirty years experience working in both the private and public sectors I can safely say that I have experienced all aspects of the recruitment cycle. I have sat on both sides of the desk at an interview and learnt a trick of two along the way. Add in recruiting staff, reviewing resumes and applications, sitting on selection panels and devising job roles and interview questions to throw into the mix also.

My career highlight has always been mentoring and assisting others to take the next step in their career journey, from applying for a position, seeking a promotion or just laying the ground work for their career. It is from a place of genuine desire to continue this that Vibe Careers Services was born.

I see too many resumes that just don’t meet modern standards but also don’t provide the reader with a sense of who the applicant is. It is all a marketing game these days and you have to be prepared to market ‘you’ first and foremost.

This is where Vibe Career Services can assist. A professionally written resume and cover letter can be a game changer in your job search. Not just because it is well presented, but it can also bring a new level of confidence to your journey. The most common thing I hear from my clients is that they struggle to talk about themselves. The next one is a reaction of surprise when they read their new resume and ask ‘is this really me’. Yes it is, it is your resume, written for you and showcasing the abilities that you may not have thought about.
