Fire and Rescue NSW's purpose is to enhance community safety, quality of life and confidence by minimising the impact of hazards and emergency incidents on the people, environment and economy of New South Wales. As one of the world’s largest urban fire and rescue services, we manage fire emergencies in NSW’s major cities and towns. We respond to rescues, hazardous materials incidents and possible terrorism activities across the State. We work with other government agencies to minimise the impact of bushfires, storms, floods, landslides, building collapses, motor vehicle accidents and other emergencies. We also run prevention and preparedness programs to prevent these emergencies and reduce their impact on the community.

Today, we honour those who dedicated their lives to serving and protecting their country during times of war and conflict. Many made the ultimate sacrifice, their courage and commitment will never be forgotten.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

Residents may notice increased smoke and haze across the area today. This is due to a combination of multiple fires currently burning:
• Ongoing fires along the coast near Nerong and Oyster Cove
Smoke can travel long distances depending on wind conditions, even when fires are not close by.
👉 What you can do:
• Close windows and doors where possible
• Avoid outdoor physical activity if smoke is causing irritation
• Those with asthma, respiratory or heart conditions should take extra care
Emergency services are aware and continue to monitor conditions. Please stay informed and look after one another.
🔥 If you need to report an emergency, call Triple Zero (000).

Today, we honour the lives lost and all those impacted by the Bondi Beach terrorist attack. As a mark of respect, station flags will be flown at half-mast on Thursday 22 January for the National Day of Mourning.

At 7.01pm AEDT, we encourage our community to pause for one minute of silence, reflecting together on loss, compassion, and unity.

🔥 TOTAL FIRE BAN – TODAY 10-1-26🔥

With temperatures pushing 41°C and hot, windy conditions, a Total Fire Ban is in place today.

That means no fires of any kind — no burn-offs, no fire pits, no sparks, no “just quickly” jobs. Conditions like this turn small mistakes into big problems very fast.

Please take extra care, report any fires immediately, and help us keep everyone safe.

Stay cool, stay safe,
