Yesterday at 10.36am firefighters were responded to a report of a house fire at Dunbible. FRNSW Murwillumbah were the first appliance on scene and were confronted with a house fully involved in fire. Firefighters immediately began firefighting operations and protecting exposures. Shortly after, Murwillumbah Rfb arrived and joined firefighting operations. Unfortunately the house and a car were completely destroyed however no injuries were reported. It was a great collaborative effort by all attending agencies due to the lack of water supply at the location. Assistance was also provided by RPAS operators from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 388 Mullumbimby, Firefighters and Hazmat from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 468 Tweed Heads, NSW Rural Fire Service Far North Coast Team, NSW Rural Fire Service Burringbar and Uki, Cudgen Rural Fire Station, Tweed-Byron Police District, NSW Ambulance.

🚗 MVA | Murwillumbah 🚗

At approximately 10.30pm last night, Firefighters from Murwillumbah 391 responded to reports of a single vehicle motor vehicle accident along commerical road.

Firefighters arrived to find a vehicle with significant front end collision damage from colliding with road work plant equipment parked alongside the road.

Thankfully no signs of injury or occupants were found within the vehicle.
Police officers attended the scene and the occupant subsequently returned to help them with their enquiries.

This incident reminds us all to drive to suit the conditions and within our capabilities.

🔥 Re-ignition | Murwillumbah 🔥

At approximately 5am, Firefighters responded to reports of a reignition at Mondays structure fire.

They arrived to smoke and flames issuing from the building.
Firefighters assisted by Murwillumbah Rural Fire Service extinguished the fire, then blanketed the structure with foam.

This is the third Re-ignition event in 2 days since the incident. Lithium batteries are highly volatile and can reignite days to weeks later after damage.

🔎Can you spot the hydrant?🔎

Neither could Firefighters from 391 Murwillumbah initially when doing hydrant inspections.

Yesterday's house fire was in a street Firefighters had recently inspected and each hydrant took approximately 10 minutes to clear the mud to make them operational.

In a house fire, every second counts. Our trucks hold only roughly 8 minutes of water. So having functioning hydrants are critical.

Things you can do to help:
•Make sure you do not cover the hydrant with your car, your lawn or any other objects.
•If you are in doubt that your hydrant is working, please give us a ring on 02 6690 6191 and leave a message or alternatively send us a message on this page.

🏠 🔥 House Fire | Murwillumbah 🔥🏠

At Approximately 3am, Firefighters from Murwillumbah 391 were called to reports of a house fire at an address in South Murwillumbah.

On arrival, they found heavy black smoke issuing from the property and a bright glow from a two bay garage underneath the house.

Firefighters quickly got to work and began suppressing the fire.
It was soon discovered that the property was the location of a E-bike rental company, which further complicated operations due to extremely toxic gases and exploding batteries.

391 Firefighters were assisted by Murwillumbah Rfb, Fire and Rescue NSW Station 468 Tweed Heads and Fire and Rescue Mullumbimby 388 to contain the fire. Which took approximately 3 hours.

Thankfully, all occupants safely exited the home due to the warning from their smoke alarms.

Firefighters from Murwillumbah 391 subsequently returned later in the day with Fire and Rescue Tweed Heads 468 Hamzat to contain asbestos found in the home and to extinguish a reignition.

This fire was a timely reminder to check your smoke alarms and be aware of the dangers associated with Lithium Ion batteries.

Firefighters from 391 had a busy night yesterday.

After inspecting a small pile burn just outside Murwillumbah C*D, they were subsequently dispatched to a single vehicle MVA along Tomewin Road. Firefighters secured the scene and rendered emergency first aid to the occupant before handing over NSW Ambulance.

Less than half an hour later were dispatched to a small bushfire located close to Murwillumbah High School which they extinguished with assistance from Murwillumbah Rural Fire Service.

A busy night that proved again that they are 💪

A big thank you to everyone who joined us last night and the staff at Murwillumbah Services Club for hosting our Fire Safety Presentation!
