Councillors were invited to attend the Murrumbateman Pump Track clubs Bike-A-Thon on Saturday at the Murrumbateman Recreation Grounds.

Councillor Alvaro Charry - Yass Valley Council and myself attended and it was a fantastic vibe. So many happy kids out there, off their devices, getting fit and making friends.

More than 50 kids showed up and they all took turns (including the adults) at practicing their jumps.

Council is currently considering 3 sites that could house a Pump Track in Murrumbateman.

There is a project plan associated with this project with Stakeholder and Broader community consultation set to start shortly.

Council will consider feedback in conjunction with site analysis data (passive surveillance, current infrastructure and future infrastructure needs) and make a recommendation to Councillors no later than July 26.

Project plan here 👇🏻

It was so great meeting members of the Yass Mums Club at Four Winds Vineyard on Saturday for a mums only catch up with Yass Valley Mayor Jasmin Jones

Tabitha and Rachael have set up a thriving club that aims to connect mums of all ages, which is vitally important in communities.

You can join the club or their curated WhatsApp chat group discussing a variety of parenting topics.

So incredible to see clubs like this taking off, providing connection spaces at little to no cost, where friendships will form and last a lifetime ❤️

Let’s chat roads for a minute 🫣

This post from the Deputy Mayor of Bathurst really got to me today.

This is the condition of a road in their electorate that needs “much needed” restoration and will be upgraded.

The following photo is a road, in a premium estate in Murrumbateman, that has been like this since 2022. It is now so bad you could lose a car down the embankment.

I KNOW there are plenty of roads in Yass Valley in absolute desperate need of not only repair but total redoing.

I know a lot of the residents that live on these roads receive little in way of their rate payments except for “road grading/maintenance”.

We expect as Councillors to receive emails out of complete frustration and loss of hope when they continually contact Council and hear nothing back.

This post is not directed at blame or shame of our Council. As Councillors we receive a lot of information regarding the WHY our roads are the way they are (finances, equipment, staff, machinery, weather).

I want to promise you that behind the scenes, Councillors are PUSHING hard for transparency and accountability and a better overall system, namely Yass Valley Mayor Jasmin Jones, Councillor Alvaro Charry - Yass Valley Council & David Rothwell for Yass Valley (Cec is in here as well but he’s not big on the socials 😜)

An email today between our team summed it up perfectly.

“ Our community have proven that they can handle the hard truths. What they will not tolerate is ambivalence or uncertainty”

When residents ask about their roads, we should be able to state clearly

“This is when your road was last graded, this is its prioritisation across the LGA and this is when it is scheduled for further maintenance”

Councillors will not stop until Council has built a transparent and easy to use system that can provide these facts quickly to those searching for the answers. This will help not only the residents, but also Council Staff on the frontline and Councillors.

Does this mean all the roads will get fixed?
Unfortunately no.

But, it will make it simple to prioritise roads maintenance and help to restore trust and accountability between the Community and Council.
