Councillor Prapti Mehta, Shire of Mundaring

Councillor Prapti Mehta, Shire of Mundaring Let me take a moment to share my story with you. However, it didn't take long for Perth to truly become our home.

In 1994, my family and I made the journey from India to Perth, filled with both excitement and a touch of trepidation. Now, after 30-something years in Perth and eight wonderful years in the Hills, my husband and I have found our place in the Shire of Mundaring, surrounded by the breath-taking beauty of John Forest National Park. We share our little corner of paradise with our adorable border coll

ie, Mister. Community involvement has always been dear to my heart, bringing me immense joy. I currently volunteer as the Treasurer at the Mundaring Toy Library and Grants Officer at the Mundaring Community Men's Shed. Additionally, I have had the privilege of contributing to various organizations in Perth, including the Elderly Citizens Help Organisation, Indian Society of WA, my children's' school P&C, State Emergency Service, and Lyla Elliot Family Dare Care Association. Education has been a cornerstone of my personal growth. I hold Bachelor's degrees in Arts and Education, a Masters degree in Arts, a Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Management, and a Professional Diploma in Human Resources Management. Over the course of my professional career, I have also more than 18 years experience working within the WA local government sector. My key areas of expertise include:

• 10+ years experience in Human Resources Management
• Strategic planning
• Governance

Integrity, honesty, and transparency are not just words to me; they are the guiding principles that shape my decisions and actions. I am deeply committed to ensuring that our Shire's future growth and development are carried out with utmost consideration for our natural environment, while also aligning with the needs and aspirations of our community and businesses, all the while ensuring financial sustainability. Accordingly I want to ensure that I am in a position where I can influence outcomes on projects, programs and services including:
• Mundaring Multi-purpose Community Facility
• Economic and tourism development
• Community wellbeing
• Natural resource management
• Policies and governance

I will bring great enthusiasm in my role as Shire of Mundaring Councillor for the Central Ward. I firmly believe that my values, qualifications, skills, and experience can be harnessed to create positive and lasting change within our community. Together, let's shape a bright future for the Shire, where everyone thrives and feels a deep sense of belonging. Authorised by Prapti Mehta

I was honoured to be guest speaker at the “Gathering of the Birds” event organised by the Forrest Darlings CWA Branch. I met many amazing ladies from CWAs across Perth, who have an unwavering commitment to giving back to community. The event was held at the Darlington Pavillion and so many visited the Darlington Community Gardens, which are thriving. I had the pleasure of dropping drink cans into the burping chute!

Today on Women’s Day I would like to recognise the profound role all us
women have played — and continue to play — in our communities. For generations, we
women have been teachers, healers, storytellers and knowledge holders. We’ve been the strength keeping family together, the negotiator helping our kids sort out their issues, we’ve been budgeting experts making that dollar stretch. We are daughters, sisters, wives, grandmas, sister”in-laws, friends….we play many roles with dignity and grace.
We have carried culture through language, art and story, sustaining identity and connection, grounded in care and shared responsibility. That strength deserves recognition and respect.
Happy Women’s Day. Let’s give us all a great big pat on our collective back. We deserve it! 🏆

We’re here to listen, build connection and deliver positive outcomes for our community. So if you see us at one of the many festivals, markets, or meetings please come say hello!

In the past, libraries were quiet places filled with rows of books, card catalogues, and whispered conversations. Then, they were mainly about borrowing books and finding information in print. Now, they’ve become vibrant community hubs — offering digital collections, online databases, free Wi-Fi, and creative spaces for learning and collaboration.
