The Munbilla railway station came about when the line came to Munbilla in 1887. It served as the Post Office and Telephone exchange until 1955 when the Post Office and Telephone exchange were removed from the station and moved to portion 227 (now 888 Munbilla Road).

Across from the station was the Station Masters house.

Near the railway station was a set of holding yards and a loading ramp for cattle. There was a goods shed, weighbridge and a ramp for loading logs.

A 1959 aerial photo shows the House, Station and Yards.

At the sidings, farmers loaded fodder and produce for the Brisbane Markets, and came from as far as Tarome to load.

This ties in with my previous post on the 27 February regarding the Indooroopilly Toll Bridge now called Walter Taylor Bridge.

See comments for details - "This was a special event using two of the preserved steam locos used for special excursions arranged largely by The Australian Railway Historical Society. Regular steam-hauled trains in Brisbane ceased in June 1968, with the last being run from South Brisbane to Lota."

Two steam locomotive passenger services crossing the Indooroopilly rail bridges in 1975. The first rail bridge crossing the Brisbane River at Indooroopilly was completed in 1876. After that bridge was destroyed in the 1893 floods, a replacement bridge was completed in 1895. With increased traffic, a second parallel rail bridge was built in 1957.

March 1964 - The fireman's view towards Anthony from C17 778. Munbilla cattle yards and General Store (in the distance) and the Mt Edwards loop siding has already been truncated ahead of the small galvanised iron shed.

In the distance just to the left of where the line disappears is the level crossing on Munbilla Road.

The General store building was on the property of 30 MacFarlane Road, it burnt down sometime in the 2000's? (If you know the date would appreciate a comment. Thanks)

When your taking a hike, stay safe with some basic skills and tools. The best hikes are the ones you come home from having enjoyed them and knowing that your preparations got you there and back, without needing to be rescued.

Invasive Flora species, make an informed choice when choosing a plant as to where you plant it and what it is. How to manage its seeds and runners if it is a non-native to keep it for your enjoyment rather than let it spread.

There are a lot of natives that can produce beautiful flowers, our historical choices are based on what we have seen around the neighbourhood and what was brought here from overseas to keep the feeling of home, or to provide medicinal requirements.

Did you know that escaped garden plants make up three-quarters of Australia's invasive w**d explosion?! And that many dangerous w**ds that choke our bushland are still being sold at nurseries?

Aussie gardeners shouldn't need a botany degree to know if the plant they are putting in their garden has the potential to be an environmental disaster. 🌱

Our Policy Director, Dr Carol Booth, spoke to ABC Lifestyle this week about the urgent need for better leadership at all levels of government regarding invasive plants, especially around the restriction of their sale.

We also celebrate the gardeners creating small, rich local habitats for native animals and insects. 🐞🐦‍⬛🌾
