Today, 30 April marks the end of the Bush Fire Danger Period for all Local Government Areas (LGAs) across NSW, with Gwydir, Mid-Western, Moree Plains and Narrabri ending their fire restrictions today.

While landholders no longer require a fire permit, you are still required to notify the and your neighbours at least 24 hours before lighting a fire. To notify the RFS, please complete the online form available on our website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify

Please note that in some areas, you may still need an environmental permit from your local council or permit from Fire and Rescue NSW. You must also be aware of restrictions on the size and materials permitted in burn piles.

For more information on safe pile burning, visit the website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/safeburning

With this week being NSW Youth Week 2026 and the theme 'Dream. Do. Dare.' It just has RFS written all over it.

Weโ€™re giving a HUGE shoutout to our very own legends, the Mudgee HQ RFS Juniors! ๐Ÿ‘

These young guns donโ€™t just show up, they show up big. Whether itโ€™s lending a hand at community events, answering that fire call, or just being absolute team players, they represent everything the RFS stands for.

And if that wasnโ€™t enough, they brought home 2nd place overall at the Australian Cadet Championship 2025! ๐Ÿฅˆ๐Ÿ”ฅ Not bad for a bunch of โ€œkids,โ€ hey? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Their teamwork, courage, and dedication make us seriously proud (and maybe just a little bit competitiveโ€ฆ weโ€™re coming for 1st next time ๐Ÿ‘€).

Thinking about trying something new? Want to step out of your comfort zone, learn some real life skills, and make mates for life? This is your sign.

๐Ÿ“ Our next Training Date:
๐Ÿ—“ Monday 27th April
โฐ 6:00pm
๐Ÿ“Œ 54 Depot Road, Mudgee

We welcome juniors from anywhere within the Cudgegong District or Mid Western Regional Council area, including Mudgee, Gulgong, Kandos, Rylstone and surrounding brigade areas.

No experience needed, just bring yourself (and maybe a sense of humorโ€ฆ weโ€™ve got plenty of that covered ๐Ÿ˜„).

๐Ÿ‘• What to wear to start
New juniors are encouraged to come along for the first few weeks to see if itโ€™s for them. Just wear:
โ€ข Enclosed shoes
โ€ข Long pants
โ€ข Long sleeves

๐Ÿ”ฅ Wanting to light a fire this weekend?

Make sure you follow the rules for wherever you are this weekend โฌ‡๏ธ

For those in the Mid-Western Regional Council area:

๐Ÿ”ฅ The Bush Fire Danger Period is still in place meaning Fire Permits are still required for hazard reduction (including bonfires) and agricultural burns.

๐Ÿ”ฅFire Permits are not required for fires for the purpose of cooking food, provided that:
โœ… the fire is in a permanently constructed fireplace;
โœ… at a site surrounded by ground that is cleared of all combustible materials for a distance of at least two metres all around;
โœ… the fire is completely extinguished before leaving.

For much of our district, it is still very dry and it is not taking much for grass fires to take hold and risk threatening property. Please follow the rules so our volunteers can enjoy their weekend at home with their family and friends.

More information can be found here:
https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/BFDP

If youโ€™re travelling this weekend, be safe on our roads.

๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฃ Happy Easter to you and your families from the NSW RFS Cudgegong District ๐Ÿš’

Mid-Western Regional Council LGA

Despite the easing of restrictions across much of the state, the Bush Fire Danger Period remains in place across the Mid-Western area due to areas of dry and increased fuel loads.

Fire permits are still required for any burning activities until midnight, 30 April 2026 and it is important that residents continue to take a cautious and well-prepared approach to burning activities.

Across the district, we have had four grass fires in the last week which had the potential to threaten property if it wasnโ€™t for the quick response of RFS volunteers.

Residents planning to burn off can request a permit and notify their local brigade using the online tool at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify or contact the Fire Control Centre on (02) 6370 9800.
