Upskilling
Over the past month Hill End RFS Brigade members have engaged in more training with other Chifley District RFS members.

Three members took part in the Trim and Cut Felled Trees chainsaw course. These skills assist in accessing properties, clearing trails and bush fire fighting

This weekend two Hill End members joined others from across the district in the Village Firefighter course. The course focused on firefighting skills around houses, structures and cars.

Training in these courses will help our brigade members respond to incidents and emergencies when needed.

Next month Hill End RFS members will be engaging in Wildfire Behaviour and Navigation training as a part of the Advanced Firefighter program.

Anyone wishing to know more about becoming part our great brigade feel free to get in touch.

Good news — the Bush Fire Danger Period has wrapped up in Bathurst, Lithgow and Oberon Areas.

But before you go firing up the backyard like you’re auditioning for “Australia’s Next Top Bonfire”… 🌪️🔥

A friendly reminder:
You now must notify the NSW RFS and your neighbours 24 hours before lighting any burn. However, if you are in an FRNSW area, you will still need a permit.

It’s quick, easy, and stops your peaceful cleanup from turning into a surprise visit from half the district’s fire trucks.

👉 Submit your burn notification here: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify

Because nothing says “community spirit” like keeping everyone informed before you light things on fire. 😉

Fire Call 12th January 2026

At around 2pm three appliances and crews from Hill End responded to a fire call on Ullamalla Road.

The incident turned out to be a grassfire at the very end of Ullamalla Road, just before the road drops down to the Dixon's Longpoint River crossing.

Thankfully council workers had been working on the road nearby and had run a grader line around the southern edge of the fire.

Two RFS crews from across the Macquarie River, and a crew from Hargraves also responded and worked to control, blackout and extinguish the fire.

Crews stood down and returned to station at around 8pm.
