The tour has come to an end - but what a fabulous week! Our final day saw a tour of the National Electoral Education Centre, the National Gallery of Australia, the Museum of Australian Democracy and our photo from the top of Mount Ainslie. We farewelled our bus driver Jeff (he was the best!!) and enjoyed a quiet flight home to the best home coming and welcome at the airport from our families - we felt like movie stars!

Day 3 Canberra continued…

Canberra tour Day 3. Wow….what a day! Parliament House tour of the Senate and House of Representatives. Then onto the Australian War Memorial for a guided tour - and we paid our tributes at the Wall of Remembrance. It was then off to Questacon for the afternoon - and the mighty gravity slide was conquered by many. After an early dinner (chicken curry and rice), we returned to Belconnen for a fun night of dodgem cars, laser tag and unlimited arcade games - the teachers had just as much fun as the kids! The whole Mount Samson team is tired and shattered - but it was well worth it!!! See you tomorrow night - landing at 7:20 pm BRISBANE time Virgin flight VA1227.

Canberra tour day 2. A tour of the AIS with our athlete Dibs who represents Australia in rowing (Mia was our champion on the chin up bar); and Evie and Mrs Bev donned the mighty green outside GIO stadium too! A lovely cycle around Lake Burley Griffin was followed by lunch and a game of markers at Reconcilliation Point (Willow was the champion at this!). We explored the National Capital Exhibition followed by the National Dinosaur Museum (Stephen asked some awesome questions!) Dinner tonight was lasagne, baked potatoes, and vegetables (yum!) Our night hike at Mulligan’s Flat sanctuary had to be cancelled last minute due to a big storm just before we were ready to head out - but we were entertained by the reptiles and the Woma python Kaa (for a touch and greet) with our guide Jack. A beautiful full rainbow appeared as well - see our photo!

Our wonderful Mrs Mill is delivering an exciting drama curriculum unit this semester for all of our students here at Mount Samson State School.

Drama is important for students to experience because it:

•Builds confidence and communication skills by encouraging children to express their ideas, feelings, and opinions.

•Develops creativity and imagination through role-play, storytelling, and problem-solving activities.

•Strengthens social skills and empathy by helping children work with others and understand different perspectives.

Phonics provides the foundation for reading and writing success. By teaching children the connection between letters and sounds, we give them the skills to decode words, build fluency, and grow in confidence as readers.

Strong phonics instruction helps students become independent learners, supports spelling and writing, and opens the door to a lifelong love of reading. Strong phonics skills today build confident readers for tomorrow.
