🎌 Year 8 Japanese | Discovering Kendama

Our Year 8 Japanese students had the opportunity to discover and play Kendama, a traditional Japanese skill toy that combines concentration, coordination and persistence.

Students explored how Kendama is played and practised a range of basic techniques, from catching the ball in the different cups to attempting the challenging spike. The hands-on activity provided a fun and engaging way for students to experience an aspect of Japanese culture while developing new skills.

There was plenty of friendly competition as students challenged themselves and their classmates to master different tricks! 🇯🇵

A fantastic way to combine cultural learning with an active and engaging classroom experience.

🎨 Year 9 SVAPA | Perth Cultural Centre Excursion

Our Year 9 SVAPA students enjoyed an inspiring day at the Perth Cultural Centre on Wednesday 9 September, exploring a range of contemporary and emerging art.

Students visited the Art Gallery of Western Australia to experience The West Australian Pulse 2026 and Stormie Mills’ All the secrets are buried between the oceans and the mountains, before heading to PICA to explore Hatched: National Graduate Show 2026.

Seeing selected Year 12 artworks alongside work by university graduates gave students valuable insight into what is possible at ATAR level and beyond, while encouraging them to consider future pathways for their own art practice. 🖌️✨

A special thank you to Marcos Prado and Charles Warren for sharing their expertise and supporting our students throughout the day.

🌟 Supporting Healthy, Connected Students 🌟

We’re pleased to announce that Mount Lawley Senior High School has received a $5,000 Healthway Healthy Schools Grant to support our project, Embedding Student Wellbeing.

The grant was recently presented to Principal Lesley Street by our local Member for Mount Lawley, Frank Paolino MLA, at our whole-school Honours Society Assembly.

The project will support our ongoing focus on student health and wellbeing, creating opportunities that strengthen resilience, connection, belonging, and positive wellbeing across our school community.

We’re proud to receive this support as part of our ongoing journey from Good to Great, continuing to invest in our students and build a school environment where every young person is known, connected, supported and inspired to aspire.

Thank you to Healthway and Frank Paolino MLA for supporting Mount Lawley Senior High School and helping us put student wellbeing at the heart of our school community. 🙌

🌟 Celebrating our amazing Education Assistants! 🎉

Last week was Education Assistant Appreciation Week, and on Friday we took the opportunity to celebrate our incredible team of 22 dedicated EAs with a morning tea.

Our EAs play such an important role in the life of Mount Lawley Senior High School, supporting students, working alongside teachers and staff, and helping create an environment where every student can feel known, connected, supported and inspired to aspire.

Their patience, care, commitment and willingness to go the extra mile make a genuine difference to our students and our school community every day.

Thank you to our wonderful EA team for everything you do. We are incredibly grateful to have you as part of the Mount Lawley family!

Celebrating Academic Excellence | Honours Society 2026 🎓

Yesterday, we proudly welcomed 20 outstanding Year 12 students into the Mount Lawley Senior High School Honours Society, recognising their exemplary academic achievement across both ATAR and General pathways.

Established in 1982, the Honours Society has become a prestigious and enduring tradition for the last 44 years at Mount Lawley, celebrating students who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to their studies and academic excellence.

The induction of our 20 new members in 2026 brings the cumulative membership of the Honours Society to 894 students.

Congratulations to our newest members on this significant achievement. Your dedication, perseverance and pursuit of excellence are an inspiration to our school community.

We are proud to celebrate your success and look forward to seeing where your achievements take you next. 🌟

What a day at Harmer Park for our annual House Athletics Carnival!

With fantastic weather, fierce competition and plenty of House spirit, our students gave it their all across the track and field. It was a brilliant celebration of participation, teamwork and school pride and we even saw six new school records broken!

🪒 Big shave. Big hearts. Big impact.

What a morning at Mount Lawley Senior High School today!

Today, these five courageous students took the plunge and had their heads shaved to support the World’s Greatest Shave and help raise vital funds for people impacted by blood cancer.

🇮🇹 G*T Club – Laguna Veneto Social & Bocce Club 🇮🇹

Our Years 7–10 Gifted and Talented students enjoyed a fantastic excursion to the Laguna Veneto Social and Bocce Club, learning about Italian culture, traditions and the history of the club, which was established in 1961 by Italian migrants from Venice.

Students were welcomed by experienced club members, some of whom have played bocce for more than 20 years! They were split into teams and taught how to play this traditional Italian game, with plenty of friendly competition along the way. 🎯🇮🇹

The day also included a delicious Italian lunch of bread and cheese, farfalle pasta with tomato sauce, ice cream and drinks, with some students even taking up the offer of a second helping!

A wonderful day of learning, culture, food and connection. A big thank you to the Laguna Veneto club members for their warm welcome, patience and generosity in sharing their knowledge with our students.

🇫🇷 Year 11 & 12 French Dinner Excursion 🇫🇷

Our Year 11 and 12 French students kicked off Term 3 with a memorable evening at Joie Café Bistro, a lively French restaurant in West Perth.

Students enjoyed an authentic French dining experience, sampling dishes including cheese soufflé, Boeuf Bourguignon, Poulet au Poivre, Gnocchi au Fromage, Crêpe Suzette and Fondant au Chocolat.🍫

Beyond the food, the evening was all about connection and culture. Students practised their French through conversations, enjoyed games and quizzes with Mme Lucas and Mme Pedretti, made new friends and even joined together across both year groups in mixed teams.

It was a wonderful opportunity to experience French culture, practise language skills and enjoy an evening together . ✨
