Men’s Health Week is a moment to bring focus to men’s mental health, particularly the different ways distress can be experienced and communicated.

This focus matters beyond one week. Understanding how men experience difficulty, and how they reach out for support, is important year‑round.

By listening closely to the experiences of people who reach out, Lifeline is focused on strengthening how support shows up when someone needs it.

Lifeline offers free support 24/7 by call, text or chat:

Reaching out doesn’t have to look a certain way.

Some people want to talk things through. Others find it easier to send a message, or to start by exploring support in their own time. What matters is finding an option that feels manageable for you.

Annas began experiencing suicidal thoughts in his early twenties, but reaching out wasn’t straightforward.

Stigma around mental health in his community made it hard to talk openly with the people around him. Speaking about what he was feeling felt overwhelming, but sending a message felt possible.

In this episode of Holding on to Hope, Annas shares how finding support through Lifeline’s text service helped him take a first step toward connection, and why having different ways to reach out matters.

Distress doesn’t usually start all at once. It can build gradually, shaped by everyday pressures that don’t leave much time to pause or reset.

Recognising these early signs can help you realise when extra support might be useful, even before things feel overwhelming.

Today is World Environment Day. It’s a moment to pause and think about the natural world around us, and also to acknowledge that conversations about climate change and the future can feel heavy at times.

If you’re feeling worried, overwhelmed or unsure, you’re not alone. Many people feel this way, and support is always available.

Spending time in nature can be one way to find a little breathing space. Even small things, like sitting outside, watering a plant or taking a short walk, can help you slow down and feel more grounded.

Remember, we are here for you.

If you need support, please call Lifeline anytime on 13 11 14, or text us on 0477 13 11 14, or visit.

Wes thought he had his life mapped out. Taking over the family farm, building a future with his wife, raising a family on the land that meant everything to him.

But years of drought, financial pressure, isolation, and loss took a steady toll. Distress didn’t arrive all at once, it built quietly, alongside responsibility and the belief that he just had to keep going.

In this episode of Holding on to Hope, Wes shares how those pressures shaped his mental health, the moment things became too heavy to carry alone, and how connection helped him hold on.
