Congratulations to our 3 latest Village Firefighter (VF) qualified members. This gives them important skills to fight car fires and support structural firefighters, Support HAZMAT and then some. We rely on a range of skills in the brigade to serve our own community from the basic Bush Firefighter (now Firefighter 1 & 2) through to Crew Leader and beyond. Not everyone has to do everything but every qual helps.
Thanks Nell, Col, & Glyn.

We try to keep the formal business as short as possible. There will be a sausage sizzle on completion!!

Please come along. Maybe you have just moved here, maybe you've been here for a while but have never checked out the station. This is a perfect time to check it out, catch up with some old faces, meet some new ones. Grab a free sausage (promise, they are better than a Bunnings sausage).

The brigade is from the community, for the community! Everyone is welcome whether you are part of the brigade or not.

This morning Boro 1 and Boro 9 attended a car * fire and an adjacent grass fire that was started by the vehicle. Thankfully, between favourable weather (i.e., no wind, cool 3am temps) and a good response time, we were able to contain the fire before it laddered into the pine trees it had burnt under.

Thankyou to Mulloon Rural Fire Brigade for joining us and bringing us a much needed extra tank of water.

* before anyone asks, it was an ICE/petrol vehicle that was reported to have caught fire whilst being driven.

It's that time of the year when people are firing up their wood heaters and wood stoves. We know not everyone waits until ANZAC Day (we see you ๐Ÿ˜). But please make sure you do the following:

๐Ÿงนclean your flue or chimney each year, preferably before you first light up for the season. Creosote build up can, and does start house fires.

๐Ÿงบ make sure you keep anything flammable (curtains, drying clothes, etc) away from the heater, at least 1m away.

๐Ÿ”ฅ don't leave a wood fire unattended

๐Ÿ”ง do any other checks advised by your heater manufacturer

๐ŸŒชmake sure your smoke alarms are working and change the batteries if necessary.

There were several heater related house fires in the region last winter. Together, let's make sure there are none this year.

As promised today's training was a fun day of pumps, drafting, and water relays. Lots of wet stuff on the ... well, wet stuff. Yet again thanks to Bungendore RFS this time for coming to us and assisting with our own training. Bringing not only many happy smiley faces but bringing the new Bungendore 1 and the Lake George Cat 6 Bulk tanker. Which we now know is so much more than a tanker! Such a great asset!

๐Ÿš˜๐Ÿš™ On our last training day at our station we ran through multiple motor vehicle accident scenarios. A good opportunity to train on the elements that go into attending MVAs: inc fire fighting, first aid, people management, hazard awareness, and multi agency integration. Props to our Deputy Captain Noel Henderson for arranging the training and careful staging of the 'incidents.'

๐ŸŽ…Please note, Santa was well after both 'accidents' and is recovering during his off season at the north pole.

๐Ÿš’ Our next monthly training is this Sunday (19th April) and we'll be covering off on pumping, drafting and water relays. If you haven't been to training in a while this is a good opportunity to refresh some basics. These are perishible skills that need to be practiced ๐ŸŒญ As a bonus we'll have a quick BBQ on completion.

๐Ÿ†A big thankyou to Bungendore RFS for organising a great Group 1 training day today. A seriously fun day held in multiple 'stations' around Bungendore refreshing skills including: casualty evacuation and first aid; pumping; hydrant use; team work, communication and problem solving. The morning flew by and we can guarantee we'll definitely be there next time!!

๐Ÿš’Thankyou to the other brigades who turned up and helped make today the success it was. Another good bit about today was splitting the brigades up and putting us on different trucks. A great opportunity to network, get out of our familiar comfort zones, and prove our training works.

๐Ÿ”ฅMidnight tonight, 31 March, marks the end of the Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) for our area.

While a fire permit may no longer be required for many landholders*, there are still important legal responsibilities in place for anyone planning to burn. You still have mandatory requirements to:

๐Ÿš’ ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ณ๐˜† ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฅ๐—™๐—ฆ ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜ ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฐ ๐—ต๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐˜€ ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ;

This is critical to help prevent unnecessary Triple Zero (000) calls and avoid emergency brigade responses to planned burns.

The QR code below is a quick way to access the Burn Notification page to notify the RFS. Please remember that when contacting your neighbours, that while posts to community facebook groups is a good way to spread general awareness of your burn, not everyone will see them. So please speak to your adjacent neighbours directly via phone or drop in and say hi.

Before lighting up, ensure you:
๐ŸŒฌ Check weather conditions
๐Ÿ’ง Have appropriate resources on hand
๐Ÿ•ถ Monitor the fire at all times
๐Ÿช Remain in attendance until the fire is fully extinguished

Please, please, please obey the Fire Ban rules and delay any activity that involves fire or the potential for sparks, to a day with more favourable conditions. The last TOBAN day was very busy for our brigade and district.

A Total Fire Ban will be in place tomorrow, Friday 6 February, for the Southern Ranges area. Hot, dry and windy conditions are forecast across parts of the state, increasing the fire danger.

Take action now. Know your fire risk and what you will do if fire threatens. Report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).

โšก๏ธ๐ŸŒฒPlease remember to remain vigilant for fires started by lightning (esp tree strikes) when storms pass with little rain. โšก๏ธ
The earlier we can get to any such fire, the quicker we can control it and put it out.โšก๏ธ
