Following on from yesterday's busy day, today Boro 1 joined Mulloon Rural Fire Brigade (and the Deputy Captain Group 1) on a familiarisation drive along several firetrails in the Tallaganda area. Many of our members who participated today have moved to the region since the 19/20 Black Summer fires so it was good to see the terrain, vegetation, and hear how fires progressed through the area. An excellent opportunity for newish drivers to consolidate skills on fire trails. As a bonus the convoy stopped a couple of times to clear branches off the trails.💪

Meanwhile 15km away, Boro 9 was flying the BMF flag on NAVEX26. 2 fun days of exercises and complex scenarios.

A great training day all around.

A busy, and long day for the brigade. A crew on Boro 1 assisted with a Hazard Reduction burn north of Bungendore (with our friends from Bungendore RFS, Hoskingtown-Rossi Rural Fire Brigade, Mulloon Rural Fire Brigade, Wamboin Rural Fire Brigade), whilst Boro 9 has been operating in the Braidwood area completing a 2 day exercise on both Sat/Sun. More to come tomorrow.

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝗰𝘁!

From midnight tonight, 00:01 Thursday 1st October, it is the start of the Bush Fire Danger Period for our area and you will need a fire permit* to conduct a burn on your property.

Know the rules and don't be the fire risk to your community. These Rules and Laws for safe burning are there to keep you and your community safe! Help us to help you! For more information on safe burning, visit: https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare/farm-fire-safety/safeburning

*Note: Permits are free and relatively easy to get but not guaranteed. The proposed burn will need to be inspected. We currently have 2 volunteer permit officers in our brigade area, both of which have busy lives (e.g., full time work, family, animals, farms etc) so the permit process will not be instantaneous. Please help us to help you and plan ahead as much as possible.

Remember, as always, report all UNATTENDED fires to 000. Please give the exact location. Poor location information means multiple trucks, from multiple brigades may need to investigate, and it may mean we will take longer to respond to the fire.

𝗔𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗥 - 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺, 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀

Do you know of any infirm, disabled and/or elderly residents in bushfire prone land that require assistance to get their property ready for the bushfire season (e.g., cleaning gutters, trimming branches near the home, mowing long grass)? Is that you?

The RFS runs an AIDER program as one off assistance to help get you ready. You can find out more information by contacting us or your local brigade, or have a chat to Bungendore RFS at the IGA sausage sizzle this Sat (26th) morning. Alternatively follow this link:

Stay up to date with alerts and warnings so you know
what you should do.

ADVICE means a fire has started. There is no immediate
danger. Stay up to date in case the situation changes.

WATCH AND ACT means there is a heightened level of
threat. Conditions are changing and you need to start
taking action to protect you and your family.

EMERGENCY WARNING is the highest level of
alert. You may be in danger and need to take action
immediately. Any delay puts your life at risk.

On hot, dry days, fires can move quickly, especially when driven by the kind of winds we get here in Boro and Mount Fairy. Are you and your property ready for this coming fire season? Do you have questions about what you can do to get ready?

We are having a Get Ready session at our Station on Sunday 20th Sep from 10am. Come and ask us or even just say hi. There'll be a free BBQ and activities for the youngsters (or the young at heart).
