The State Emergency Service (SES) is a volunteer emergency service organisation which gives immediate assistance during emergencies and disasters. We also provide community response to 'day to day' incidents such as vehicle accidents, searches, cliff rescues, flood and storm damage situations and any other incidents that might require rescue or search services. The SES is part of a national networ

k of similar services in each State and Territory around Australia. More than 1,600 SES Volunteers are members of 67 Units across South Australia. Volunteers provide emergency response to the community of South Australia 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The SES also cooperates closely with other statutory emergency services and has storm and flood relief as responsibilities in State legislation. As the Hazard Leader and Control Agency for extreme weather in South Australia, the SES aims to increase community awareness and preparedness relating to extreme weather events. A well prepared community is better able to respond to and recover from an emergency. To become an SES volunteer phone 1300 364 587

🧡💙Last night, Mt Barker SES crews attended the WOW Day event at State HQ, celebrating and recognising the incredible work our volunteers do within emergency services and the wider community.

On the way home, crews made a quick stop by the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, which was lit up in support of WOW Day — a great reminder of the appreciation shown for volunteers across the state. 🌟

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers for the time, dedication, and commitment you give to helping others. Whether it’s attending incidents, training, community events, or supporting each other behind the scenes, your efforts never go unnoticed.

Happy WOW Day to all volunteers 💙🧡

Today, members of Mount Barker SES, Mount Barker CFS & South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service Mt Barker pause to honour and remember those who have served and sacrificed for our country this ANZAC Day. 🧡

We pay our respects to the courage, mateship, and resilience shown by the men and women of the Australian and New Zealand armed forces—past and present. Their legacy continues to inspire the values we carry into our own service to the community.

Lest we forget 🌺

Yesterday at 12:06pm, our crews were tasked to assist Sturt State Emergency Service with a cow stuck in a paddock 🐄

On arrival, crews located a large steer trapped in a muddy trench with his head stuck in a drain — a challenging situation to say the least. 😅

After a long afternoon (8 hours in total), crews worked tirelessly alongside vet Charlotte from Horsemed Echunga and local legend Tom from SA Plumbscapes with his excavator. Thanks to an incredible team effort, the steer was successfully freed and left in the care of the vet and owner for a well-earned rest 🙌

A big thank you as well to Bradbury Country Fire Service for assisting both crews with cleaning down all equipment before crews got back on the road 🚒

A fantastic example of multiple agencies and locals coming together for the wellbeing of the community — well done to everyone 👏

🌳This morning our SES crews, alongside Mount Barker CFS, attended a tree down blocking whole lane. 🌳

🚨Upon arrival crews found a fairly large gum tree branch had fallen and broken into multiple pieces causing a traffic hazard ⚠️

Trees get heat-stressed, just like you and me 🌳

And when they get stressed, they can snap with little to no warning.

With the hot weather we’re experiencing, here’s how you can keep safe:
- Don’t park cars under trees or large branches
- Look up before you set up – keep camps, picnics and more away from trees or large branches
- Don’t let kids (or the kids at heart) play on or around trees and large branches
- Seek other shade options if you’re outside

The shade might be nice, but being under a tree when it goes snap is not. A few metres distance from a tree could keep you, your loved ones and your car/vehicle safe.
