They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

🔥🚒 YOU CALLED 000 — WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? 🚒🔥

Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes when you dial 000 for a fire, crash or emergency? Here’s how your Mount Barker Volunteer Fire & Rescue Brigade springs into action 👇

🕒 ALERT RECEIVED (within seconds)

If our brigade is tasked, our volunteers receive an SMS text and a notification via the BART app 📱 showing incident details and location.

🕒 AVAILABILITY CHECK (first 1–2 minutes)

Volunteers decide if they can respond — some may be at work, with family or otherwise committed.
No roster — we respond when we can 💪🧑‍🚒

🕒 RESPONSES CONFIRMED (first 2 minutes)

Members mark their status in BART — Responding / Delayed / Unavailable — so the Crew Leader knows who’s on the way 🚗💨

🕒 HEADING TO STATION (2–5 minutes)

We grab our gear and drive to the station — safely and within road rules.
Safety is priority 🚦

🕒 AT THE STATION (5–10 minutes)

Crew Leader allocates roles such as Truck or Light Tanker Crews, BA etc.

We kit up in full PPE and prepare the Appliance’s 👨‍🚒🧤🔥

🕒 TRUCK ROLLS OUT (when crew ready)

Once we have a responding crew, we board the appliance and radio through that we’re on route 🚒📻

🔥 A Little Insight 🔥

Only a few volunteers may be available for each callout — everyone still has work, kids, life and commitments.
Yet from first alert to truck departing, it’s often under 10 minutes ⏱️
Pretty incredible for everyday people in your community 🙌

Thank you for supporting your local Volunteers ❤️

Your patience, your waves, your kind words — it all means a lot.

During Monday's training session, we were fortunate enough to practice our RCR skills on real casualties, while also educating new drivers on the dangers of reckless driving. Five casualties aged 16-17 were extracted from a small vehicle, providing a realistic demonstration of our procedures. We appreciate the participation of these individuals in helping us refine our skills and hope they gained valuable insights from the experience.

Yesterday, our local Scouts dropped by and basically took over the station 😱- they even got a tour of the truck 🚒🔥

At the monthly meeting this evening, Firefighter Kathleen Western and Caitlin Speedy received congratulations on their outstanding commitment and performance, resulting in the award of their Senior Firefighter Epaulettes by Captain Matt Newham. Congratulations ladies 🚒

Edit: these ladies have made the tremendous efforts to attend all courses required to receive this rank, they have achieved this due to their longstanding dedication to bettering themselves continuously. To be able to be awarded with this rank firefighters have to attend a large number of courses and a minimum service period of 5 years. Congratulations again 🙌🏻
