Smoke alarms should be replaced every ten years 📆

Installing a smoke alarm with a 10-year long-life battery means that you won’t need to change the battery for the life of the alarm.

We all know too well how hard it was to commence recovery phase after 2019/20 Fires that impacted East Gippsland.

This is a fantastic initiative organised by our fellow firefighters at Sarsfield Volunteer Fire Brigade to give back to another fire affected community in need.

If you are in a position to help, see the flyer for more information and local businesses that are participating.

As many of our followers know, bushfires are wreaking havoc across Victoria again, and many areas are experiencing now what we went through in 2019/20. Our community was strongly supported during our own recovery phase, and we would like to offer that same support to an area that has been hit hard. We reckon it’s time to return the favour.

Our Brigade Secretary Brian, a former resident of Yarck, said seeing the impact of the fires has affected him deeply. “Fortunately, the township of Yarck was saved by the dedicated efforts of fellow firefighters and local volunteers, but we know that so many local folks have lost everything. It's been heartbreaking to see, even at a distance.”

So the Sarsfield Brigade wants to help. We know how hard it was for our community in the aftermath of the fires, and we want to support the Yarck district as they begin to rebuild.

From 10 February to 10 March, community members can support the appeal by purchasing fencing materials or hand tools at Brownwigg, Elders, and Goodmans in Bairnsdale, or by purchasing building timber supplies from Gippsland Treated Pine in Lucknow. In addition to fencing supplies, tools such as shovels and rakes are incredibly useful during the clean-up period and can also be purchased as part of the fundraiser. All purchased items will be donated directly to assist recovery efforts in the Yarck district.
Brownwigg, Elders, Goodmans, and Gippsland Treated Pine will hold all supplies once purchased, and local business Buchan Towing has generously offered to transport all donated materials. The items will be delivered to the Yarck district on 14 March, where they will be distributed throughout the community.

The Sarsfield Rural Fire Brigade encourages locals to get involved and show their support for fellow rural communities doing it tough.
