Donald Duncan McNeice OAM.
Several Association members attended Don’s funeral on Thursday 7 November.
Don was the Vice President of the NSW Scottish Regimental Association and will be sadly missed by the Association.
The Association sent Don out in style. Pipe Major Bill Wright piped the coffin into the Chapel to “Highland Cathedral”, followed by the Association Standard Party, SGT Peter Bryce, and CPL James McCann. The Standards were placed near the coffin.
P/MAJ Bill played during the service “Going Home” and then as the people moved out of the chapel “Scotland the Brave” which was the Regimental tune of the NSW Scottish Regiment and of course “The Black Bear.
I have attached photos of the Order of Service showing Don’s life story and the many things Don was involved in.
A story Don liked to tell was when the movie ZULU was released at the Regent Theatre in George Street in 1965 the battalion organized to see it. The battalion formed up in Hyde Park South in uniform and marched down Bathurst Street to the Regent. At the time LT Bill Crooks later became LTCOL Bill Crooks MBE ED called for a volunteer and pacifically named Don McNeice. He gave Don a pole with a lighted lantern on the end and told Don to march at the rear of the battalion so no cars would run into the marching soldiers.
Don said he felt like one of the Seven Dwarfs marching going off to work.
Don organised the Raffle Ticket Consultants to sell the raffle tickets and with his keen selling ability always produced a good result for the Association. Don was a very loyal member of the Association from the time the Association was formed in 1998.
Finally Don was very Lucky to have met and Married Brenda and shared their lives together for over 30 years.
R.I.P Don
