Become an On-Call Firefighter in Mortdale 🚒

Are you looking for meaningful work that makes a real difference in your community?

As an On-Call Firefighter, you'll respond to emergencies including fires, motor vehicle accidents and hazardous materials incidents. You’ll also help educate the community about fire safety and prevention. You'll work alongside other emergency services and play a vital role in protecting people, property and the environment.

We're looking for people who are:
• Team-oriented and reliable
• Community-focused
• Adaptable and committed
• Available across weekdays and/or weekends, including day and night shifts

Essential requirements:
🔥 Valid NSW Driver's Licence
🔥 Australian or New Zealand citizen, or permanent resident
🔥 Live and/or work within a reasonable distance of Mortdale Fire Station

No previous firefighting experience is required. Comprehensive ongoing training is provided.

Last year, almost half of the homes damaged or destroyed by fire in NSW didn’t have a working smoke alarm.

Fire and Rescue NSW offers FREE Home Fire Safety Visits. Firefighters can come to you, test your smoke alarms, and replace them if needed - helping keep your household safe.

A big thank you to everyone who attended our Open Day at Mortdale Fire Station today. It was a huge success and a fun filled day, with plenty of demonstrations and activities highlighting what we do.

A special thank you to Fire and Rescue NSW Commissioner, Jeremy Fewtrell AFSM for stopping by and showing his support.

We also appreciate the volunteers from Rotary Club of Hurstville for putting on a great sausage sizzle, and the team from the Community Fire Unit for coming down and showcasing the important role they play in the community.

It was a fantastic day and we thank everyone who helped make it such a success.
