🏗️ Fantastic to get down to the Sorrento SLSC (VIC) to celebrate the club’s “Topping Out” milestone in the construction of its new clubhouse.

This was one of the first major projects we voted to support as a newly elected Council, and it’s great to see the build progressing so well. The new facilities will support lifesaving, training, community activities and local events for decades to come.

🎶 From there, it was off to Main Street Mornington to check out the Mornington Winter Music Festival. The street was buzzing with people enjoying live music, local businesses and the vibrant atmosphere. It was fantastic to see so many people out and about supporting our local traders and enjoying everything Mornington has to offer.

It’s always great to see community investment and local events bringing people together across the Peninsula. 👏

Get excited 😀🎤🎼🎶

Another full-on week at Council - and a great reminder of how much happens across our community. 👏

📅 Monday began with meetings and finished with an evening presentation from Street Side Medics, hearing about the important work they do supporting vulnerable members of our community.

🎤 Tuesday, it was an honour to join CEO Mark Stoermer on the opening panel for Destination Mornington Peninsula, and catch up with Member for Nepean Anthony Marsh, before heading into more meetings and Councillor Workshops.

☕ Wednesday started with Mornington Main Street’s Biggest Breakfast for the Cancer Council, followed by a lucky opportunity to attend 🦪 OzFish’s shellfish restoration project, and then 🎭 Padua College’s Musical Showcase in the evening.

🌿 Thursday took me to Cardinia with Cr Stephens for the SECCCA Mayoral Forum, before returning for an evening Councillor Workshop.

🏡 Friday, thanks to Cr Batty, I joined a tour of The Block with Member for Mornington Chris Crewther and Crs Patton, Allen and Williams.

🖤💛❤️ Today, I attended Willum Warrain’s Reconciliation and Families Day. It was a wonderful community day filled with respectful conversation, culture, dancing, food 🍽️ and connection. It was also great to see Member for Hastings Paul Mercurio, and Crs Roper, Patton, Stephens and Gill there.

🙏 A busy week, but one full of community, collaboration and purpose. The Mornington Peninsula continues to be an incredible place because of the people, volunteers, community groups and organisations who contribute so much behind the scenes every day. 🌊☀️🌿

Next week is looking equally as busy! 💪😊

I’m looking forward to attending this Saturday and supporting Willum Warrain’s Reconciliation Families and Allies Day.

A wonderful free community event, supported by Mornington Peninsula Shire, bringing people together for Welcome to Country, cultural performance, connection and lunch.

All welcome.

Fishermans Beach retaining wall update

A quick community update on the Fishermans Beach retaining wall.

DEECA has advised Council that the replacement of the retaining wall has been delayed. Based on earlier advice, the project was expected to have commenced by now, however DEECA has now provided Council with an updated project timeline.

The current expected process is:

May 2026DEECA prepares the project documentation, including the project plan, communications approach and internal approvals to proceed to procurement.

Mid-May to mid-June 2026DEECA prepares and releases a Request for Quote to pre-qualified contractors.

Mid-June to late July 2026Tender period and evaluation of submissions.

Late July to early August 2026Contract approval and award, subject to statutory and internal approvals.

Mid-August 2026Contractor mobilisation to site, subject to approvals being finalised.

Late August to November 2026Construction of the replacement seawall, noting that works are weather and tide dependent.

Late November 2026Practical completion, subject to construction commencing without significant delays.

In the meantime, the temporary bunting and safety measures remain in place to keep the community away from the leaning wall. Council officers are continuing to monitor the immediate public safety risks in line with coastal engineering advice.

It’s been another exceptionally busy fortnight across the Peninsula.
Over the past two weeks I’ve had the privilege of meeting with multiple community groups, attending the Sorrento Writers Festival, visiting the Victorian Vegetable Innovation Days in Tyabb, attending the opening of the new Rye Cricket Nets, and joining the Peninsula Aero Club for the Airshow donation cheque presentation.
I also visited The Briars, met with the Shadow Minister for Local Government, attended the Committee for Frankston & Mornington Peninsula school leaders presentation, and even spent time working on the Yarra River assisting with sediment testing.
These weeks are busy, but they are also a great reminder of the strength, diversity and energy of our local community, from students and volunteers, to local businesses, sporting clubs, emergency services, environmental work and community leaders.
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to speak with me, share ideas, raise issues and contribute to making the Mornington Peninsula such a special place.
