Mornington Park Primary School

Mornington Park Primary School At Mornington Park Primary School our caring staff are committed to the development of the whole child. This school is proud to offer two curriculum streams.

At Mornington Park Primary School our caring staff are committed to the development of the whole child academically, physically, socially and emotionally. Our philosophy is firmly based on the belief that within a stimulating, and caring environment, individual needs can be met to enable all students to reach their potential. We believe that optimum development depends on self-confidence and self

-esteem, cooperation and consideration for others. In providing an outstanding curriculum, we are committed to the recognition of the individual. We have a traditional education and one based on the educational philosophies of Rudolf Steiner. Parents have a choice about the type of education their child enters into. We believe that a positive attitude towards learning is pivotal to success, and that accommodation of diverse styles of learning and acknowledgement of prior learning must underpin all successful curriculum planning. We are therefore committed to creating positive classroom climates, in which students are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their own learning as they progress throughout the school, and in which risk-taking is encouraged in the pursuit of personal excellence. At all times great emphasis is placed on building relationships amongst students, between teachers and students, and with parents and caregivers of our students. I look forward to meeting you in the near future. Please contact the school to discuss how we can meet the needs of your child. Bev Dadds

MPPS went 'All In' for National Reconciliation Week with their 6 metre timeline created by the students in Yarning Circle. All classes linked the timeline with truth telling. The junior classes tip toed the 2.5cm it has been since Captain Cook saw fires and interacted with First Nation peoples along the east coast as he sailed on the Endeavour 250 years ago. But they had to make very big jumps to get all the way to 60,000 years and more that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have been caring for Country. The senior students worked out the calculations of metres to cm/mm; how many mm they were on the timeline; how many cm since the Dutch and Spanish explorers sailed the waters to the north, west and south; Yolnu links in Arnhem Land with the Macassan traders from as early as the1500s. We also linked why the 27th May Referendum Day and the 3rd June Mabo Day were so significant to the timeline and disproved the notion of 'Terra Nullius'.
