Community Update – Morawa Water Supply

Morawa has experienced an unexpected disruption to scheme water this week due to a power failure at the Arrowsmith Water Treatment Plant, which temporarily stopped water production. This was not a planned outage.

To maintain supply, Water Corporation has been carting water into Morawa while crews work to restore normal operations and rebuild tank levels. Town tanks are now back to levels that can meet local demand, and Water Corporation expects supply to remain stable while tankering continues.

If you experience a loss of water supply, please contact Water Corporation’s Faults and Emergencies team on 13 13 75.

‼️Temporary Scheme Water Supply Interruption‼️

We have been advised by Water Corp that as part of minor upgrades of the Billeranga Water Tank, the town scheme water supply will experience a temporary water interruption on Tuesday 29 September 2026 from 6am- 6pm.

If available please switch over to the use of your water tanks for that period.

You may also notice discoloured water in the days following the outage. A change in the direction that water flows through pipes can stir up sediment, which makes the water look discoloured. Please be assured the water is still safe to use.

If you experience discoloured water:
•Run the outside garden tap at the front of your property for a few minutes, until the water clears.
•Repeat the step above for an outside tap at the rear of your property.
•Do not use washing machines, dishwashers or other water using appliances until the water is clear. If clothing is stained during washing, leave the clothes immersed in water.

Magellanic Clouds on the Rise💫
Did you know there are two galaxies visible to the naked eye in our night sky? We’re in the perfect place to see the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, two neighbours of our home galaxy, the Milky Way. They are only visible from the southern hemisphere and are starting to rise higher in our early evenings. Try looking for them from 7.30pm, between 4th – 14th September.

Bright, Bright Venus✨
What is that “bright star” visible in the early evening? It’s not a star at all, it’s our neighbouring planet, Venus. On 23rd September, Venus is at “greatest brilliance” and is the brightest it gets for the year. In September, Venus appears as the “evening star”. In October, we lose sight of Venus to the glare of the Sun. Finally in November, Venus reappears as the “morning star”!

All is Equal for the Equinox ☀
On 23rd September, the centre of our Sun is on the same plane as Earth’s equator. Our planet’s axis isn’t tilted toward the Sun one way or the other and the hours of night and day are almost equal in length. It’s the vernal Equinox and spring is on the way.

Thankyou to everyone who voted in the 2026 Morawa Art Awards and Exhibition Local Resident People’s Choice Award for 2026.

We are pleased to announce the winner as per your votes was local artist Veni Inbaseelan for her amazing work 'Whispers of Rhodantha'.

Her entry received the most votes in the People’s Choice voting held throughout the exhibition, with 240 votes collected over the 9 days.

This award is about celebrating the amazing local talent, and it is clear the community and visitors that came through the exhibition loved Veni’s work!

Congratulations to all the local artists involved in the exhibition, and thank you to everyone that voted.

Fire Weather District Boundaries have been changed as part of updates to the Australian Fire Danger Rating System (AFDRS) to simplify and streamline the way community members are kept informed about the risk in their local area.

Morawa is located in the North Midlands Fire Weather District, and the Emergency WA app has been updated to reflect the changes.
