𝗦𝘆𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗢𝗹𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴'𝘀 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀🎖️
We extend our warmest congratulations to two Old Boys who have been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).

𝘿𝙧 𝙍𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙃𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙨𝙤𝙣 𝙊𝘼𝙈 (Class of 1954)
Awarded for his service to medicine as a pathologist. Before embarking on his distinguished medical career, Roger was a force on the tennis court. Featured in the 1954 team photo (circled), Roger was part of the Sydney Boys High School First Grade Tennis Team that took home the CHS Premiership. In the days before the GPS competition, this meant conquering the state's toughest competitors, including Fort Street, Sydney Tech, North Sydney High, Randwick, and Hurlstone.

𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗦𝗛𝗦𝗢𝗕𝗨 𝗔𝗚𝗠
The Sydney High School Old Boys Union will hold its 2026 AGM on Thursday, 25th June at 6:30 PM. Members can join us in person at the SBHS Boardroom or via video conference.

Key deadlines for eligible voting members:
• Council Nominations: Must be submitted by 6:30 PM on Thursday, 18th June. Roles include President, Vice President, and Ordinary Council Members.
• Proxy Forms: Must be submitted by 6:30 PM on Monday, 22nd June.

A few issues of the Summer Sports Magazine from the 1970s have come to light. The magazine which, like the Rugby Magazine, was produced by the Interact Club, intended to foster support for the variety of summer sports then on offer. One editorial observed:

"summer sport just doesn’t get the support as Rugby enjoys. Where a 1st XV game gets a crowd of 1000 or more, a cricket game, basketball game, tennis match or weekly regatta, has a small but very conscientious following. Fair enough, but still, as much support as possible is greatly appreciated…"

Who remembers when the programs arrived at school before the GPS Regatta and everyone started working out the heaviest and lightest crews on the river? High History and Heritage now has now put up online a collection of programs from High's first appearance in 1924 up to 1999 - from the Parramatta River to the Nepean River and, finally, the Sydney International Regatta Centre. https://history.sydneyhigh.school/nodes/view/8246

1 week left to get your application in for the Sydney High School Old Boys Union Mentoring programme. We are looking for Old Boys looking for mentorship (as mentees) and more experienced old boys (as mentors). 
This programme will aim to assist our Old Boys who are in university (2nd year+) learn from our established Old Boy mentors through a structured mentoring programme over the next six months.

The Old Boys’ Union is proud to announce James Luo (Class of 2019) as the latest recipient of OBU sponsorship.

James is an aspiring international powerlifter and current Australian National Champion in Bench Press across both Junior and Open divisions. During his time at Sydney Boys High School, he competed as a national level swimmer before taking up lifting and beginning his journey in strength sports. He has represented Australia at international competitions in Japan and New Zealand, where he was crowned Regional Champion at the Asia Africa and Pacific Championships and Oceanias. He will represent Australia at the Worlds Bench Press Championships 2026 in Poland.

We are proud to support James as he continues to pursue excellence on the international stage.

Kenneth Knowlton Saxby (1912) was killed in action in World War I near Ypres, on 20 September 1917, aged 21. He had enlisted and left Australia two years earlier, in October 1915.

When various war memorials were proposed by Sydney University, Kenneth’s father, George Campbell Saxby (1887) (Headmaster, 1925-1933), a man of deep religious conviction, wrote:

“Being only 18 when he enlisted, he consulted my wishes and I consented, provided he joined a non-combatant section. …”

“As a non-combatant first by obedience to parental authority, and later by choice, he has no war record. As a University Scout, he was offered a sergeant’s stripes the day he entered camp, but being marked for the [Army Medical Corps] he had to decline the offer. Finding that the Field Ambulance men got no nearer to the firing line than the casualty clearing station, he transferred to the Regimental Medical Details and as this did not take him with the battalion into the actual fighting he joined the battalion as a regimental stretcher bearer, wore the battalion colours, was liable for service under arms but took his chance, went over the top with the men, and had his dearest wish gratified of being right on the spot to save men where minutes made the difference between life and death.”

“As with other parents of brave sons, we think there are no other sons to be compared with him, yet our hearts go out in loving sympathy to all who have lost sons, husbands, lovers…”

Kenneth’s sacrifice is remembered at High in the K Saxby Prize awarded for Year 11 Mathematics.

Calling all Old Boys looking to support the schools 36 team strong basketball program.

SBHS Basketball is looking for old boys/basketball coaches , experience preferred but not essential.
Requirements: love the school, the game and can be trustworthy.
