💖 Becoming a Care Coordinator: A Personal Journey of Love and Compassion 💖
Life has a way of opening your eyes to new paths, especially when it comes to helping others. For me, that journey began when my beautiful mother-in-law, Jan, became a leg amputee at the age of 74. It was a huge shock to our family, and especially to Jan, whose strength and resilience amazed all of us. But as Jan faced this difficult life change, she remained determined and strong, taking everything in her stride.
After her surgery, Jan underwent months of rehabilitation, and eventually, she was able to return home. She was given a Level 4 home care package, which was intended to help her live independently. Jan chose a service provider, and at first, everything seemed to be moving in the right direction. But soon, we realized that the care services were not living up to expectations. Support workers were often cancelled or didn't show up, the home wasn’t being cleaned well, and when Jan reached out for help, she was frequently left without any response. Meanwhile, the provider continued to take its hefty fees every month, which was incredibly frustrating.
That's when I decided to step in. I took the reins and began investigating different providers that could truly offer the support Jan needed. After a lot of research, I found a reliable provider that met our needs and gave me the opportunity to coordinate Jan’s services. I found two amazing carers who have become wonderful companions to Jan—they cover each other's shifts and ensure she has the care she deserves. We also arranged for a regular cleaner, gardener, and any additional services she needs. All Jan has to do is call me, and I handle the rest with the provider.
This experience opened my eyes to how many others might be facing the same struggles as Jan. It became clear to me that I wanted to make a difference in the lives of people who, like my mother-in-law, deserve compassionate care and attention. I wanted to make sure that elderly individuals could feel special, valued, and well cared for.
After months of research and planning, I found Plancare, and I knew this was the right fit for me to start my own business. My mission became clear: to help the elderly receive the best care with support workers who truly care, are reliable, and who have the best interests of my clients at heart. I’m now proud to be a care coordinator, and I can’t express how rewarding this role is.
Every day, I’m privileged to become the voice of my clients, advocating for them and ensuring they can continue living happily in their own homes for as long as possible. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that I’m making a difference, one person at a time.
My role isn’t just about coordinating services; it’s about ensuring that each individual feels valued, supported, and loved. Whether it’s managing their care package, finding the right carers, or simply offering someone a compassionate ear, I’m here to make their lives a little easier and a lot more joyful.
