Change your smoke alarm batteries!

Don't forget that tomorrow (Sunday) morning, you need to put your clocks back 1-hour.

This is a great time to change your batteries in any smoke alarms that you have in your house (and test they are working).

Today, fallen CFS volunteer Louise Hincks' funeral was held in Adelaide.

The photo on this post was of Minlaton members present at the CFS Station on January 25, when the siren was sounded for a minute, followed by a minute silence.

This poem read was part of eulogy from CFS Chief Officer Mark Jones:
When fires and storms, crashes or floods place people in harm’s way,
South Australia’s firefighters are never far away,
Bravely performing their duties, when people are in need,
Rarely thinking of themselves – a truly selfless breed.

We’re drawn to risks and dangers that other people fear,
But we go each time they call us out – it’s our calling – why we’re here,
We accept that the next call might always be our last,
But we respond and turnout anyway - determined and steadfast,
For whatever dangers face us, nothing will change our heart,
Because we’re firefighters to the end and will always play our part.

Firefighters seek little honour whilst they’re here to hear the praise,
But we should pay them homage at the ending of their days,
Perhaps in tomorrow’s newspapers, the headlines might just say:
“Australia – be in mourning! We lost a firefighter today”.

Rest in peace Louise

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

This evening at 7pm, January 25, as a mark of respect and condolence of the tragic loss of Louise Hinks of Happy Valley CFS during the Callendale/Lucindale bushfires, the Minlaton CFS Siren will run continuously for one minute.

It will wail to its full for one minute then come down, followed by a minute silence.

If you can spare two minutes tonight at 7pm, please stop what you’re doing and listen to our siren and take a minute to remember our fallen colleague.

From the Minlaton CFS Brigade, we pass on all our thoughts to her family and to the others involved in this tragedy.

The sounding of the siren does not signify any threat to the community.
