Have your say on the proposed Cats By-law ๐Ÿพ

Council is seeking feedback on a new Cats By-law as part of the current by-law review, following strong community support for improved cat management across the Council area.

The proposed by-law;
๐Ÿพintroduces cat registration
๐Ÿพaddresses nuisance behaviours (such as spraying and noise)
๐Ÿพsets a limit of three cats per household
๐Ÿพallows for containment requirements so that cats do not wander.

Measures to prevent cats wandering would be introduced later to give cat owners time to prepare, such as modifying homes or installing cat runs.

The draft By-Law is being presented to the community for feedback as part of the Councilโ€™s by-law review where five by-laws are being updated and two new by-laws are proposed.

Council staff will be available at drop-in sessions in Beachport, Millicent and Penola, where the community can pop in and chat with us about the proposed by-laws.

๐Ÿ‘‰ View the details and provide your feedback at: www.engage.wattlerange.sa.gov.au/by-law-review
๐Ÿ—“ Submissions close Monday 13 July 2026.

Please note: comments on this post will not be recorded as formal feedback. To have your say, use the official engagement page.

โœจ Boost your business street appeal โœจ
Councilโ€™s Shop Facade Upgrade Program is here to help local businesses put their best foot forward. By supporting small improvements to shopfronts, the program aims to create more attractive streets, strengthen the character of our region, and deliver real economic benefits for our community.
Well-maintained, high-quality facades help build a strong sense of place, make our streets feel safer, and create a more welcoming experience for locals and visitors alike.
The program has recently been expanded, itโ€™s now open to all businesses across the Wattle Range Council area, not just those in townships.
๐Ÿ’ฐ Grants of up to $4,000 available (dollar-for-dollar funding)
๐Ÿ’ผ Minimum project value of $1,000 applies
๐Ÿ“Š Up to $20,000 allocated to the program each financial year

Weโ€™re seeking feedback on our proposed by-laws. By-laws are local rules to help Council manage activities across the area, including what is allowed, what needs a permit and what is not permitted. They support us to keep the community safe, comfortable and well managed.

The proposed by-laws include:
By-law No. 1 - Permits & Penalties
By-law No. 2 - Movable Signs
By-law No. 3 - Roads
By-law No. 4 - Local Government Land
By-law No. 5 โ€“ Dogs
By-law No. 6 โ€“ Cats (NEW
By-law No. 7 โ€“ Domestic Livestock Management (NEW)

* Bฬถyฬถ-lฬถaฬถwฬถ nฬถoฬถ. 6 - Foฬถrฬถeฬถsฬถhฬถoฬถrฬถeฬถ (proposed to be removed and merged into By-law No.4)

Most of the current by-laws were last reviewed in 2019 and must be reviewed every seven years. This review considers changes to legislation, Council activities and community needs.

The community are encouraged to provide feedback on the proposed by-laws which will be received until Monday 13 July 2026.

Council staff will be available at drop-in sessions in Beachport, Millicent and Penola, where the community can pop in and chat with us about the proposed by-laws.

For a copy of the draft by-laws, more information, dates of the drop-in sessions and opportunities for feedback, visit www.engage.wattlerange.sa.gov.au/by-law-review

๐Ÿ“ New road name confirmed in Beachport

Wattle Range Council has officially assigned the name Euro Drive to the unnamed road leading from Ringwood Drive and Admella Drive, Beachport.

The name recognises the Euro shipwreck, which ran aground near Cape Banks Lighthouse in 1881 while travelling to Beachport. It also aligns with nearby shipwreck-themed roads including Admella Drive and Geltwood Drive.

Council thanks the community for providing feedback during consultation earlier this year. Following community input, the proposed name was slightly revised from Euro Road to Euro Drive.
