Our First Nations students in years 3-6 took part in an online incursion presented by the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra exploring the 2026 NAIDOC theme, 50 Years of Deadly.

This theme recognises 50 years of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership, activism, cultural resilience and community driven storytelling – honouring the Elders, advocates and changemakers who have shaped the NAIDOC movement.
Inspired by the portrait, Charles Perkins On The Bus To Tranby Aboriginal College, Glebe (C1964), they drew themselves driving a bus filled with people that inspire them (many of them said their Mums, Dads and family members) and considered how they can contribute to the next 50 years of our shared future.

What an amazing group of students we have at our school!

Scitech Lunchtime Club Continues to Grow!
Our Scitech Captains recently hosted another successful Scitech Lunchtime Club for our Year 5 and 6 students. This was the third opportunity this term for students at MPHPS to participate, following earlier sessions enjoyed by students from other year levels.
The lunchtime club provides students with a safe and engaging online environment where they can connect with their peers, explore their interests, and develop their digital skills. During the session, students enjoyed playing online chess, collaborating on Minecraft projects, and socialising with friends.
A big thank you to our Scitech Captains for their leadership and enthusiasm in organising and supporting these sessions. It has been wonderful to see so many students take advantage of this opportunity and enjoy technology in a positive and inclusive way.

Today the Foundation students took part in a language experience of making vegetable soup. They thoroughly enjoyed participating in the process and steps to making the soup and of course enjoyed eating it at the end. πŸ₯£πŸ₯«

Welcome Branch and Twig to Grade 1!
One of the highlights of our inquiry topic, Change, has been welcoming two very special members to the Grade 1 family – our stick insects, Branch and Twig. The students have loved checking on Branch and Twig each day, making sure they have fresh leaves and observing them closely. It has been wonderful to see the excitement in the classroom as students notice changes and share their discoveries with one another. Watching Branch and Twig has helped bring our learning about change to life. We have loved seeing our tiny classroom friends grow and can't wait to see what they do next!

Today, the amazing First Nations students from Years 1 and 2 participated in an interactive online session with curators from the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra to celebrate the 2026 NAIDOC theme, 50 Years of Deadly.
This theme celebrates 50 years of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership, courage, creativity and community strength.
The students discussed various art works depicting people that inspire them and then created their own pictures of themselves being deadly.
Have a look at the fantastic art that they have created.

As part of our Inquiry unit on Change, the students in class 2B have been growing and caring for their very own Grass Heads. Each week, they have observed and documented the changes they noticed as the grass sprouted, roots developed and their Grass Heads continued to grow.
The results have been fantastic! Some of our Grass Heads are sporting some very impressive hairstyles, while others have grown a little wild with their crazy grass hair. What a fun way to explore how living things change over time!
