Sunassist Volunteer Helpers Inc. Sunassist is a not for profit community organisation which commenced providing services to the elderly and disabled in the Mildura community in 1981.

As Sunassist has grown, the organisation has broadened its scope to ‘’assist people to live as independently as possible in the community by providing a range of support services’’. Sunassist has over 300 fantastic and dedicated volunteers who provide the range of support services to the elderly, disabled and young people in the community. These services include Meals on Wheels, Community Transpor

t, Assisted Shopping, Friendly Visiting, Phoneassist and the L2P Learner Driver Mentor program. As the need for Sunassist services continues to increase with the ageing population and the growing needs of the community, the volunteer hours Sunassist volunteers provide to the community is increasing significantly each year. Small volunteer based organisations with limited funding like Sunassist face overwhelming pressures due to increased regulation, service demands and administration costs. To ensure its future, Sunassist must plan and build partnerships to create a stronger organisation which will ensure the continued provision of essential services to the Sunraysia community for many years to come.

Community Update – Sunassist Services

You may have seen media reports about fuel supply pressures in regional Australia.

At this stage there are no fuel shortages in Mildura/Sunraysia, and all Sunassist services including Community Transport, Assisted School Travel, Social Outings, L2P driving, and Meals on Wheels are operating as normal.

We are monitoring the situation closely and will continue working to ensure our clients receive the support they need.

To Our Incredible Sunassist Volunteers 💙

I was just out driving and went past one of our volunteers doing what you all do so well - caring. So I thought I just had to put something in words to express my appreciation and why Sunassist is so different to other organisations. 😊

Every day, across our community, you quietly show up with compassion, patience and generosity. You give your time, your energy, and most importantly, your hearts — and the impact you make is extraordinary.

Whether you are driving someone to an appointment, helping in the MOW kitchen, delivering meals, assisting people to do their shopping, assisting young people to learn to drive, supporting our programs behind the scenes, helping at fundraising events, or simply offering a friendly smile and conversation, you are changing lives. The care and respect you show to the people you support brings dignity, connection and hope to those who need it most.

As Executive Officer of Sunassist, I want you to know how deeply grateful we are. Our organisation does not exist without you. The trust our clients place in us is built on the kindness, reliability and humanity that you bring to every interaction.

We’re currently seeking help with:

🚐 Community Transport
• After-hours drivers
• Vehicle cleaning

🍽️ Meals on Wheels
• Meal deliveries

🔥 Bunnings BBQ (Fridays)
• Set-up and pack-up support

📋 Administration
• General office and admin assistance

This Christmas Day, we’re spreading joy and togetherness at the Mildura Workers Bowls Club! We warmly invite our clients, volunteers, and their families to join us for a delicious Christmas Day lunch. 🎅🍗🥩

🚐 Transport is provided to and from the venue, so everyone can enjoy the day stress-free.

🍽️ For clients who are unable to attend, we’ll be delivering a festive Christmas lunch right to your door!

🌟 A Heartfelt Thank You from Sunassist Volunteer Helpers 🌟

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mildura Senior College and Northern Mallee Local Learning & Employment Network for presenting us with a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the Northern Mallee LLEN.

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming 12 incredible students to Sunassist as part of their learning program. These students spent the week with us gaining insight into what Sunassist does behind the scenes — the business operations, planning, coordination and support work that many in the community don’t often get to see.

Together, we worked on meaningful projects including our AGM preparations, annual calendar, volunteer onboarding campaign, and more. Their ideas, enthusiasm, and fresh perspective brought so much value to our organisation.

We want to take a moment to thank these 12 outstanding students for their assistance, maturity, dedication, and willingness to learn. Their professionalism throughout the week is a true testament to the students themselves, the supportive families behind them, and the wonderful school community they come from.

It was inspiring to see how engaged and capable they were, a reminder that our future is in very safe hands with young people like these stepping forward.

To the staff and team members who helped make this opportunity possible and supported the students along the way, thank you. Partnerships like these strengthen our community and create pathways for young people to grow.

Christmas is just around the corner, and here at Sunassist , we are getting ready to host our annual Christmas Day Luncheon for community members.

Everyone deserves to feel valued, included, and remembered on Christmas Day and that’s exactly what our celebration is all about. ❤️

We’re reaching out to our wonderful local businesses, service providers, and community supporters who may like to get involved this year. We’re not asking for much, but if you’ve ever wanted to give back or be part of something truly meaningful, this is a beautiful opportunity.

Lunch at the Workers Bowls Club in
Cureton Avenue for our clients, volunteers,
and staff.

A three-course lunch and some drinks will
be provided. Santa will also make an
