We honour the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to help others, and all those whose lives were forever changed that day.

Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

📢 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭 - 𝟏:𝟑𝟎𝐩𝐦 𝟐𝟕 𝐎𝐜𝐨𝐭𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 📢

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we need to test the system across Australia.

On 📆 Monday 27 July, your mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test 🔔 alert.

The test times across Australian time zones are:
• 2:00 pm AEST (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS)
• 𝟭:𝟯𝟬 𝗽𝗺 𝗔𝗖𝗦𝗧 (𝗦𝗔, 𝗡𝗧, 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗡𝗦𝗪)
• 12:00 pm AWST (WA)

The message will 📳 vibrate and include a 🔊 loud, siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds.

⚠ If this could disrupt you or cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please 📵 turn off your mobile devices or switch them to 📴 aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location, and leave them off for at least one hour.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.

MFS & SA Country Fire Service firefighters recommend using flameless, battery-operated LED candles.

If you choose to use flame candles, never place them on a flammable surface, nor near combustibles like curtains, furniture, clothing and textiles.

Combine the above safety tips with the installation of well-maintained, photo-electric smoke alarms in your home that are less than 10 years old. Consider having all your smoke alarms interconnected.

Meningie Structure Fire – 15 May 2026

Just after 9:30am this morning, our crews responded to a reported structure fire involving a complex of four retail outlets in Meningie.

Supported by approximately 30 CFS and MFS firefighters, along with other emergency services, crews arrived to find the fire well involved.

Thanks to the outstanding efforts of all responders, the fire was contained to one business and an adjoining residence, with minimal to no fire impact to remaining shops.

Incidents like this have a significant impact on our community, and we thank everyone for their patience and support throughout today’s response.

Our brigade is made up of dedicated volunteer firefighters who train hard to protect our community. We are always looking for new volunteers to join the team.

Training is held every Monday night from 7:30pm (1930hrs).

It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the recent passing of Raymond (Ray) Squires AFSM, a highly respected and long-serving member of the CFS and our Meningie Brigade.

Ray dedicated over 61 years of service to the Country Fire Service, joining at just 15 years of age in 1962 with the Currency Creek Emergency Fire Service – Goolwa. His remarkable commitment saw him serve with:

• Goolwa Brigade (1963–1980)
• Narrung Brigade (1980–1996)
• Meningie Brigade (1996–2024)

Among the many major incidents Ray attended were the Kuipto Forest fires in the early 1970s, the Tooperang fires in the mid-1970s, and the Sydney fires in 1994.

Throughout his service, Ray held numerous leadership roles, including:

• Coorong Group Officer
• Coorong Deputy Group Officer (12 years)
• Narrung Captain
• Meningie Lieutenant
• District Fire Control Officer
• Training Officer

His dedication and leadership were recognised with several prestigious honours, including:

• Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) – 2006
• CFS Life Membership – 2012
• National Medal 2012 and three Clasps
• CFS 60 Year Service Clasp – 2023

Ray’s commitment to protecting his community, mentoring members, and serving the CFS with integrity and humility leaves a lasting legacy. His contribution to Meningie Brigade and the wider CFS family will never be forgotten.

Our thoughts are with Ray’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Rest peacefully, Ray. Thank you for your service. 🚒

A day to remember those who lost their lives in South Australia ln bushfires, to recognise the strength of people and communities who have rebuilt after disaster, and to encourage actions that strengthen bushfire resilience into the future.
