🐾 Exciting things are coming to Navan Park with a new and improved dog park!
Navan Park is a much-loved community space, and City of Melton Mayor Cr Lara Carli marked the commencement of construction on the upgrades to the dog park with an official sod turn today.

Earlier this year, we asked the community to share their ideas for the future of Navan Park Dog Park. The feedback helped inform the upgrades, which will include:
• Large open grass areas
• Natural play elements for dogs
• More trees and improved landscaping
• Sheltered seating areas
• An accessible circuit path
• An additional fenced area with seating

We look forward to seeing this exciting new space take shape over the coming months and welcoming residents and their four-legged friends once it's complete. We're sure local dogs Ivy and Bambi, who joined us for today's sod turn, will be among the first to check it out and give it a tail-wagging seal of approval. 🐶

Council is investing $342,600 and delivering the upgrades., The Victorian Government is contributing $300,000 through its New and Upgraded Dog Parks Program, while Melbourne Water is providing $200,000 towards the project.

It was a privilege to welcome Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, Governor of Victoria, to the City of Melton this week.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Governor to spend time in one of Australia’s fastest-growing communities, meet local people to see and hear about the City of Melton, its growth, its people and the opportunities and challenges in a growth area.

The day began at the Melton Library and Learning Hub, where Her Excellency met with Council representatives, including the Mayor, Councillors, and Council’s senior leaders for a conversation about the City of Melton’s past, present and future.

Her Excellency then visited the Study Hub within the Melton Library and Learning Hub, to learn how students can access campus-style study spaces, academic and administrative support, and a range of free student services through the partnership between Djerriwarrh Community & Education Services, Victoria University and Council.

Next was a tour of Council’s under construction Cobblebank Community Hub, which provided a view of the Cobblebank area and an overview of Council’s vision for the Hub to provide residents with accessible and inclusive community services closer to home.

The visit concluded with stops at local businesses, including ABMT Textiles and Swisse Wellness, showcasing the innovation, resilience and entrepreneurial spirit that continues to drive our local economy.

We thank the Governor for taking the time to visit the City of Melton.

Today Mayor Cr Lara Carli met with Liberal Party candidates, Jarrod Bingham, Nathalie Moussi, Simmone Cottom, Graham Watt and Shadow Minister for Police and Corrections and Shadow Minister for Sport Brad Battin to discuss Councils state election priorities.

A key focus was to seek investment in Council's Get the City of Melton Moving campaign. We are calling for:
• Electrification and duplication of the Melton rail line by 2030
• New train stations at Mt Atkinson (Truganina), Thornhill Park and Calder Park.
• Upgrades to Key roads including:
🚗Western Highway
🚗Melton Highway
🚗Hopkins Road
🚗Calder Park Drive / Westwood Drive / Robertsons Road (Palmers Road corridor)
🚗Taylors Road

As Australia’s fastest-growing area, our community deserves transport infrastructure that keeps pace with growth.

The meeting provided a great opportunity to discuss key priorities and important local matters.

The Mayor has a number of upcoming meetings with candidates from major parties to continue to represent our community and work with all levels of government to secure the investments that deliver meaningful benefits for residents now and into the future

As you may be aware, bird flu has been detected in wild birds in our area.
There are a few simple things we can all do to help protect our local wildlife and keep an eye on what's happening in our community. If you see sick or dead birds or wildlife:
📱 Report five or more sick or dead wild birds to Agriculture Victoria online or call the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888
✅ Avoid touching or moving them, and keep pets away
📍 Record what you see and the exact location
🐕 When walking your dog, keep them away from sick or dead birds and wildlife.
🐔 If you have chickens at home, take extra care to reduce their contact with wild birds, remove shared water sources with wild birds. Net pens and free range areas to keep wild birds separate from your flock.

The risk of H5 bird flu to people remains low. Community reports are an important part of helping authorities understand where the virus is occurring and respond where needed.

For the latest information, reporting and advice, visit Agriculture Victoria's H5 bird flu information: agriculture.vic.gov.au/biosecurity/animal-diseases/poultry-diseases/H5N1-avian-influenza-H5-bird-flu/report-sick-or-dead-wild-birds-and-wildlife
