Woohoo Melbourne, we DID IT!! 🤩 We broke the WORLD RECORD for the BIGGEST EVER cheer dance – led by the amazing San Francisco San Francisco 49ers Cheerleaders 🙌🏆

1,424 dancers, cheerleaders, families, NFL fans, Melbournians young and old showed up to be a part of this incredible event, and to make HISTORY – smashing the previous record of 1,371 people, which was set in Japan in 2015.

What a day! Incredible.

Time to pat yourselves on the back, Melbourne. You should be proud!

And of course the NFL celebrations don’t stop yet – this Thursday and Friday, Fed Square is going to be transformed into the NFL Week: Melbourne End Zone, where you can soak up all the excitement of the NFL’s historic arrival in Melbourne.

There’ll be free entertainment and activities, you can catch NFL games livestreamed to the Big Screen across the two days, and after dark, you can catch special screenings after dark celebrating LA and West Coast football culture.

So … What record should we break next? 😜

MELBS! You know how we love breaking world records? 🏆🙌

From the bagpipes to the Time Warp, we’ve got a bit of a history with this record-breaking caper.

So to celebrate NFL game week – let’s break another one this Sunday 6 September! 🤩

A reminder that you definitely DON’T need any skill to be involved. To prove it, we tried running an impromptu dance tutorial in the Square.

We can promise that the San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush cheerleaders will make MUCH better teachers on the day 😁

Was it Colonel Mustard with the knife in the billiard room??🕵️‍♀️

This Saturday, we’re paying tribute to one of the all-time greats, British star of stage and screen, Tim Curry, with a free outdoor screening of the 1985 cult-comedy whodunnit, 𝑪𝒍𝒖𝒆, based on the boardgame, Cluedo 🕵️‍♀️❤️

Set in 1954, the film follows six strangers who are invited to a New England mansion on a dark and stormy night under mysterious circumstances, where they’re greeted by the butler, Wadsworth, played by Tim Curry.

Why are they all here? What secrets are they hiding? And who will leave alive? 🔍

The ensemble screwball comedy features a brilliant all-star cast of comedy acting legends, including Madeline Kahn as the black widow Mrs White, Christopher Lloyd as the lecherous Professor Plum, Michael McKean as the accident-prone Mr Green, Lesley Ann Warren as the street-smart Miss Scarlet, Eileen Brennan as the flamboyant society dame, Mrs Peacock, and Martin Mull as the nervy Colonel Mustard.

Its jumps, lightning strikes, murders galore – and perhaps even more than one possible ending.

We’ll have the deckchairs out but be sure to bring a blanket and rally some other Tim Curry fans to enjoy this celebration of his life and legacy – and the many laughs he brought us throughout his 60+ year career.

Melbourne is kicking off NFL Game Week with an attempt to make history, right here at Fed Square.

Join the legendary San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush Cheerleaders on Sunday 6 September as they lead Victorians in a bid to break the world record for the largest cheerleading dance 🙌🎉

🎯 Current record to beat: 1,371 participants

Tonight at Fed Square there will be a candlelight vigil to remember those who lost their lives in the Nepal flood disaster 🕯️💔

The event welcomes Victorians to come together to stand in solidarity with the families and communities of those affected by this tragedy.

💖Tonight (Thursday 27 August) we’ll be screening 𝑺𝒕𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝑴𝒂𝒈𝒏𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒔 on the Big Screen at 8pm in celebration of Dolly’s life, and for some well-needed group catharsis 🎬😭

Because no one quite brought people together like Dolly.

The film stars Dolly in her iconic role as Truvy Jones, glamour technician at a small-town salon in Louisiana where a group of close-knit Southern women gather to gossip, share stories, and support each other through life’s ups and downs.

With an all-star case including Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Daryl Hannah, and of course Dolly Parton, the film is a beloved classic, and a moving story about the power of friendship between women.

The deckchairs will be out, but dress warmly and bring a blanket.

And definitely bring tissues 🥹

Noooo. Vale Tim Curry 😭

Here’s a little flashback to 2008 when more than 2,000 people gathered at Fed Square to break the world record for the biggest ever group Time Warp – the dance made famous by Curry in his iconic performance in the 1975 cult musical-horror The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

What an icon. 💔
