Altona and Williamstown beaches targeted for extra summer patrols, as police launch zero-tolerance safety crackdown from 1st November 2026.

• Victoria Police will deploy extra officers across multiple beaches this summer, including Altona, Williamstown, as part of a zero-tolerance approach to unsafe and antisocial behaviour from 1 November.

• Jet ski riders will be a key enforcement focus, with police conducting drug and alcohol tests, monitoring speed limits and restricted areas, and potentially seizing vessels that breach regulations.

Local uniform officers will be bolstered by Water Police, the Public Order Response Team, Highway Patrol, Transit Safety Division, the Mounted Branch and the Dog Squad, with dedicated presence in foreshore areas and nearby activity hubs.

Mobile policing units deployed across busy areas will serve as a central hub for residents and visitors to engage with police, while also enabling officers to monitor antisocial behaviour.

“We know people let their hair down in summer. The sun’s out, school’s out and the vibes are high. But we also know this means some people may overindulge in alcohol and cause trouble unnecessarily, increasing the likelihood of bad decisions being made and people getting hurt,” Acting Deputy Commissioner Gilbert said.

“Alcohol, drugs and waterways can be a deadly combination. One stupid decision on a jet ski could see you, your passenger or a swimmer killed in a split second.”
Jet ski riders will again be a focus for police on the water, to ensure they adhere to speed limits and restricted areas and keep clear of swimmers close to shore.
While Victoria Police will be doing everything it can to reduce harm, residents and visitors are reminded that safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Well, this calls for a b**r! 🏆🍻
Last Friday, Hopheads won Excellence in Retail, Tourism or Hospitality at the 2026 Wyndham Business Awards. We’ve been pouring b**rs since 2015 and we were super surprised to have walked with a shiny little thing.
Winning was great. Why we won means even more.
What got us over the line was our community: you lot. From day one, Hopheads has been about bringing people together. It started with b**r (it still is!), but over the years it’s grown into sharing all the stuff we love: running, sport, music, board games, video games, trivia. You came wanting to connect, and we weirdly became the facilitators. Many of you are now friends, some practically family, and we’re honoured you’ve let us be part of your lives. Bringing people with different interests together is what we want to do a whole lot more of in the years ahead.
Small business life has its tough moments, so this one means a lot. ❤️
To Wade, our right-hand man, and our whole team, thanks for all your hard work and care. To our customers, run clubbers, gamers and community, thanks for being part of Hopheads.
Congrats to all the finalists and winners. We were in seriously good company.
See you at the bar! 🍻 See less

❤️ A Fond Farewell to the Hawly Family 🐟🍟

After 22 years at Harrington Square Fish n Chips, the Hawly family have called time.

As we watched your family grow, you watched ours too. Your welcoming smiles, delicious fish and chips, and genuine connection with your customers made you an integral part of Harrington Square and the Altona community.

You will certainly be missed, but we understand the need for some well-deserved time with family.

Thank you for 22 wonderful years of being part of Harrington Square. We wish you all the very best for whatever comes next! ❤️

This will be their last week as owners but will be staying for another 2 weeks with the new owners.

Safer Businesses – Safer Hobsons Bay | Inaugural Forum

Last night marked the inaugural Safer Business – Safer Hobsons Bay Forum, bringing together local traders, Victoria Police and Council to discuss local issues and ways to improve safety across our business community.

These forums aim to equip local businesses with the knowledge, tools and practical strategies to create safer workplaces — not only for business owners, but also for their staff and customers.

Everyone has the right to feel safe at work. By working together, sharing experiences and learning from one another, we can help build a safer and stronger local business community.

More forums will be rolled out over the coming months, providing further opportunities for businesses to connect, raise concerns and access valuable information and support.

A big thank you to Gill Gannon Chair of the Hobsons Bay Community Safety Committee, and Carolyn Foley from Victoria Police for facilitating such a valuable forum.

And thank you to Pier 71 Bar e Cucina for generously providing the venue and refreshments.

Together, we can make Hobsons Bay a safer place to do business. 🤝
