🔥 MELBOURNE FIREFIGHTER STAIR CLIMB 2026 🔥

This Saturday, 19 members of Scoresby CFA are taking on the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb at Crown Metropol.

They’ll climb 28 floors carrying around 25kg of firefighting gear, alongside hundreds of firefighters from across Australia.

The Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb raises money for cancer research, crisis support and mental health initiatives for emergency service personnel. These issues hit close to home in the emergency services community, affecting firefighters, their mates and their families.

Our Scoresby team has been training hard and fundraising even harder, raising an incredible $7,472 so far this year.

We’re incredibly proud of everyone taking part and grateful to everyone who has donated and supported the team.

Funeral details for Andy

The funeral for Andy will be held at Karralyka Centre, 22A Mines Road, Ringwood East, on Friday 28 August at 11:30am.

Following the service, CFA members will form an honour guard. Members are invited to wear their uniform if they would like to pay their respects in this way. For those that are unable to attend please find the streaming details below.

Our thoughts are with Andy’s family, friends and loved ones at this difficult time.

Vale Andrew Read

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Brigade Member Andrew (Andy) Read.

Andy joined the Scoresby CFA as a Junior Member on 1 July 1996 and remained a valued and much-loved member of our brigade throughout his life.

Despite a long and challenging journey with significant health issues, Andy continued to be a familiar and welcome presence at brigade events, always ready to share a smile, a laugh, and his friendship with those around him.

Andy embodied the values and spirit that all Scoresby members aspire to uphold. His strength, resilience, and determination were evident throughout his many health battles.

Time and again, he exceeded the expectations of medical professionals, demonstrating remarkable courage and an unwavering ability to overcome adversity.

Andy's positivity and perseverance left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be remembered not only for the challenges he faced, but for the way he faced them, with grace, humour, and extraordinary tenacity.

On behalf of all Scoresby CFA members and our broader community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Andy’s family and loved ones.

During this difficult time, we stand beside them as we remember and celebrate the life of a truly remarkable friend, colleague, and member of the Scoresby family.

Rest easy brother, we'll take it from here.

TOMORROW MORNING: meet Scoresby Fire Brigade firefighters at two local shopping precincts🧯

Scoresby Fire Station uses Sunday mornings to check the inventory of our 4 firefighting vehicles.

Tomorrow, we're bringing these truck checks to the Scoresby Village and Knoxfield shops, so the community can see how we prepare for a week of responding to fire emergencies.

On Friday, July 3 at 8:00am, our brigade responded to an automatic fire alarm at a public storage facility on Koornang Road, Scoresby. Upon arrival, crews were confronted with a confirmed fire within one of the storage units.

As the incident escalated, additional resources and specialist appliances were requested to assist crews in managing the complex and challenging fire.

Firstly, we want to acknowledge and sincerely thank every member from all emergency services and supporting agencies who has attended this incident. Your professionalism, dedication and tireless efforts have been nothing short of outstanding.

This has been an incredibly complex fire to contain and extinguish. Self-storage facilities present significant risks to firefighters because the contents of each storage unit are unknown. The methods or agents required to extinguish a fire in one unit can potentially react with materials stored in neighbouring units, creating additional hazards and making the operation far more challenging.

To put the scale of this incident into perspective, more than 250 firefighters have worked tirelessly over the past 50 hours. The number of hours contributed by crews is simply immeasurable, and their commitment has been extraordinary.

Finally, to the members of the public, we completely understand the impact this incident has had on you, your families and your businesses. We know this has been a difficult and stressful time for many. Thank you for your patience, understanding and support while firefighters continue working to ensure the fire is made safe and fully extinguished.

To everyone involved, thank you for your unwavering commitment and dedication to protecting our community.

Vale John Lancaster

John joined the Scoresby Juniors in 1985 learning his craft from brigade stalwarts including Mick Hageman and Jim Gibbs. He then graduated to the senior brigade in 1994 before moving on to Boronia Brigade.

He was an adventurous and likeable man, having a go at anything with great positive thoughts.

He formed lifelong friends at Scoresby to this day and we are saddened by his untimely passing.
