A big thank you to everyone who came along to our recent group training! πŸ‘πŸ™Œ

These sessions take plenty of planning and only happen because our volunteers show up ready to learn and train πŸ’ͺπŸ”₯

❄️Even with the cooler weather, we’re already preparing for the next fire season πŸš’πŸŒΏπŸ”₯

Huge congratulations to Fiona! πŸ†

Congratulations Fiona Macken AFSM!

Everyone at CFA Diamond Creek Brigade is incredibly proud to congratulate Fiona Macken on being awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM).

Since joining CFA as a volunteer in 2008, Fiona has demonstrated exceptional dedication to her brigade, CFA and the wider Victorian community. Over this time, Fiona has attended more than 1,260 incidents, answering the call to protect and support our community whenever needed. This remarkable contribution represents countless hours of service, commitment and leadership.

Fiona has also made a significant impact through community safety and education initiatives, including the development of tailored programs for people with disabilities and other vulnerable members of our community.

In her professional role as CFA’s Fire Medical Response Program Manager, Fiona has led the development and statewide rollout of the Fire Medical Response Program in partnership with Ambulance Victoria, helping deliver training, policy development and operational support across 50 CFA brigades throughout Victoria.

Fiona’s outstanding service, leadership and commitment to helping others make this recognition thoroughly deserved. We are incredibly proud to see one of Diamond Creek’s finest recognised with this prestigious honour.

Congratulations Fiona, and thank you for your extraordinary contribution to our brigade, CFA and the Victorian community. πŸ‘πŸš’πŸ…

πŸ’›πŸš’ National Volunteer Week πŸš’πŸ’›

Did you know every member at Wattle Glen CFA is a volunteer? πŸš’

This week we celebrate and thank volunteers everywhere β€” including the many CFA members who continue to give their time, skills and energy to help keep communities safe.

From responding to emergencies, attending training, supporting community events, fundraising, maintaining equipment, mentoring new members and everything in between β€” volunteers are at the heart of what we do πŸ™Œ

A special thank you as well to our local community for the ongoing support you show our brigade and volunteers throughout the year ❀️

Community supporting community.

🏠πŸ”₯ Home Fire Escape Planning πŸ”₯🏠

When a fire happens, every second counts. Having a home fire escape plan can help you act quickly and safely πŸš’

A few simple things to think about:
β€’ Know 2 ways out of every room πŸšͺ
β€’ Choose a safe meeting spot outside (letterbox, front gate etc.) πŸ“
β€’ Practise your plan with everyone in the house πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦
β€’ Stay low if there’s smoke πŸ‘‡
β€’ Get out and stay out β€” never go back inside for belongings ❌
β€’ Once safely outside, call 000 and ask for FIRE ☎️

Taking a few minutes to plan now could make all the difference ❀️πŸ”₯

πŸš’ πŸ’ͺStill busy at Wattle Glen CFA πŸ’ͺ πŸš’

Even as the weather cools down, our crews are still keeping busy.

Our operational firefighters have been training in draughting β€” practising how to fill trucks from static water sources like dams and creeks β€” while also supporting our new recruits through their General Firefighter training.

πŸ”₯ If you’re planning a burn-off, please remember to:
β€’ Register your burn πŸ‘‰ https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/contact/register-your-burn-off
β€’ Check any local council requirements πŸ‘‰ https://www.nillumbik.vic.gov.au/Residents/Fire-flood-and-emergencies/Fire-and-heat/Preparing-your-property-for-fire/Apply-for-a-permit-to-burn-off

This helps ensure burn-offs are done safely and reduces unnecessary call-outs.

Thanks for continuing to support your local brigade πŸ™ŒπŸ”₯

πŸ”₯🌧️ Fire Danger Period Ended 🌧️πŸ”₯

The Fire Danger Period has now finished in our area.

While restrictions have eased, it’s still important to take care when burning off. If you’re planning a burn:

βœ… Register your burn-off before you light up:
https://www.firepermits.vic.gov.au

βœ… Make sure you comply with all relevant regulations, including local laws and council requirements
βœ… Check weather conditions β€” avoid windy days
βœ… Ensure you have enough water and equipment on hand
βœ… Never leave a fire unattended
βœ… Make sure it is fully extinguished when finished

Registering your burn helps prevent unnecessary emergency call-outs and keeps everyone informed.

Thanks to our community for doing their part throughout the Fire Danger Period πŸ™ŒπŸ”₯

πŸ”₯ While fire restrictions are easing in some areas, the Fire Danger Period is still in place for all councils within District 14 until 1:00am, Tuesday 7 April 2026.

Please continue to take care and follow all fire restrictions β€” conditions can still change quickly.

If you don’t obtain a permit, you could be breaking the law and may be prosecuted.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe πŸš’

πŸš’πŸ”΅πŸš¨You might have spotted our flashies on at Ellis Cottage Tuesday night πŸš¨πŸ”΅πŸš’

πŸ”₯ Training looks different every session. Tuesday night was a full drill. Arriving on scene, delegating roles within the crew, and every person executing their part so we can get water on as fast as possible. Safely. Effectively. Together.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’ What we love about a night like this is seeing our newest recruits working alongside those still building their experience, and our seasoned firefighters πŸ§™β€β™‚οΈ

πŸ’ͺ Individual skills matter, but a drill is where everything has to connect! Team work makes the dream workπŸ™ŒπŸš’

🌧️πŸ”₯ Fire Danger Period Reminder πŸ”₯🌧️

The recent rain has been lovely 🌧️, but we’re still in the Fire Danger Period.

That means you cannot light a fire in the open air unless you have a permit. If you don't obtain a permit, you could be breaking the law and may be prosecuted πŸ™…β€β™€οΈπŸ”₯

🌧️ Enjoy the rain while it lasts, and keep an eye out for ducks on the roads πŸ¦†πŸš—

🚫πŸ”₯ So even with the rain, no burn-offs during the FDP.

πŸ”Ž Learn more about the Fire Danger Period and what it means for you:

The Fire Danger Period is when CFA restricts the use of fire in the community. This is to help prevent fires from starting.
