20 years. One incredible comeback. 🏃‍♂️

Twenty years ago, Ben Turner was hit by a tram, left with broken bones and unable to walk.

Now? He’s taking on the Melbourne Marathon.

We’re proud to share Ben’s story and cheer him on every step of the way.

Last week at Riverslide Skate Park, we had the privilege of welcoming 19-year-old Morgan for her very first skate session. 🛹💙

With the support of the Skate Frame program and the superstar Riverslide Skate Park team, Morgan was able to experience the excitement, freedom and confidence of skating alongside everyone else at the park.

The session was about more than just learning a new skill. It was about creating opportunities, building confidence and making sure everyone has the chance to be part of the action.

To top it all off, the other skaters joined Morgan for a group photo, showing that inclusion and community are what Riverslide is all about.

We're proud to help make skateboarding more accessible, one session at a time.

What a night for the Active Melbourne team! 🏆

Recently, the Active Melbourne team joined industry colleagues at the Aquatic Recreation Victoria award ceremony to celebrate the people and organisations making a positive impact across the recreation sector.

To make the night even more special, North Melbourne Community Centre took home the Small Facility of the Year award. This recognition is a testament to the hard work, passion and dedication of our staff and partners at YMCA Victoria, who have helped transform the centre into the thriving community hub it is today.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved. This award belongs to the team, and we can't begin to express how proud we are of our superstar staff.

Short on time? Try 9. ⛳⛳⛳

New figures from Golf Australia show 9 hole golf is on the rise, with more than 734,000 9 hole handicap rounds played across Australia in the past year and participation continuing to grow. Women are leading the way, playing 9 hole rounds at more than three times the rate of men!

Looking for a quick hit of golf without committing to a full round? Head to Royal Park Golf Course. Just minutes from the C*D, it's the perfect spot to fit a round into your day, whether you're new to the game or a regular golfer.

Less time, less pressure and plenty of fun. Sounds like a win to us.

As part of National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating the people who help make community sport welcoming, inclusive and connected for everyone, with our final volunteer spotlight shining on Nandy from Walking Football 4 Health Victoria .

Since joining the club in 2025, Nandy has helped create spaces where people of all ages and abilities can stay active, connect with others and enjoy the game at their own pace.

As a volunteer, Nandy supports day to day activities across different locations, helps demonstrate walking football at community expos, manages enquiries and occasionally leads Docklands sessions.

“I love that walking football is so inclusive. It’s a game anyone can play at their own pace.”

After moving to Australia, being part of the club helped Nandy build community, connection and a real sense of purpose.

Fun fact: Nandy speaks four languages and is currently learning a fifth!

Thank you to volunteers like Nandy who help make community sport safe, welcoming and inclusive for all.

“I love that MUBC is a place where I can find a community of people who all share a passion for basketball.”

Through the club, Kayla has found lifelong friendships, a strong sense of community and even met her partner James at a basketball tournament in 2020. 💫

Meet Belen. ⚽💙

Community sport is powered by passionate people like Belen.

After moving to Australia from Argentina, Belen joined Melbourne Social Soccer Inc as a player and found more than just a place to play. She found community, connection and belonging.

Now, alongside helping organise events, Belen manages the club’s social media channels, helping create a welcoming and inclusive environment where people from all backgrounds can get involved, stay active and meet new people through sport.

“I love having a place to play with friends, meet new people from different backgrounds and keep improving my skills.”

In 2025, Belen completed the City of Melbourne sponsored Boardroom School program, building leadership skills and confidence to support the future of community sport.

Volunteers help make community sport safe, inclusive and welcoming for everyone and Belen is a big part of that.
