Horizon 3023 is a major commercial precinct in Melbourne’s Western Growth Corridor.

It’s home to many high-profile national and international brands.

Among them is Swisse – a global health and nutrition company, founded in Victoria.

This iconic brand has recently established a new 17,000 square-meter National Operations Centre on this site.

The precinct is an important local employer, and a tour was a fitting way to conclude the visit to City of Melton.

Melton is a rapidly expanding part of our State.

But ABMT Textiles has already been here for more than two decades.

From its headquarters, ABMT is pioneering innovative work in product tracing and waste minimisation.

A tour of the facility as part of a visit to City of Melton offered an insight into its role in the textiles industry.

In Melbourne’s west, the City of Melton is one of Australia’s fastest growing areas.

Welcomed by the Mayor of City of Melton, a visit to Melton commenced with a briefing from Council.

Taking place at the Melton Library and Learning Hub, it was also a chance to see the Melton Suburban University Study Hub and meet with some of the students who use the facility.

Nearby is the Cobblebank Community Hub – an important project nearing completion that will offer space for community service providers.

A special milestone for Government House Victoria.

On this day in 1876 the first official ballroom function was held at the recently completed House.

That occasion was the Queen’s Birthday Ball of 1876 (pictured), when guests gathered to celebrate the birthday of Queen Victoria - which also acted as the coming out event for Governor, Sir George, and Diamantina, Lady Bowen’s eldest daughter, Adelaide, ‘Nina’, Bowen.

One newspaper estimated at least 1,400 people attended the event, which was reported to be excessively crowded – with another report noting that ‘locomotion became a matter of difficulty’.

The Ballroom, which was originally painted white, has welcomed countless people for ceremonies and celebrations in the 150 years since that first event.

Trade and investment, defence and even cricket were all featured in what was a diverse week in the official program.

The week started with the hosting of Games on the Green – in partnership with Cricket Victoria, Cricket Australia and The LBW Trust – bringing Victorian school students onto the Western Lawn to play some cricket in front of Government House.

An afternoon tea for Heads of Post of Victoria’s global trade and investment offices was complemented by attendance at the Governor of Victoria Export Awards – a chance to celebrate the achievements of Victorian companies on the global stage.

A morning tea was hosted to mark 125 years of the Navy League of Australia, while a dinner earlier in the week brought together stakeholders in our State’s defence industry to meet with the National Armaments Director.

A day trip to City of Melton saw visits to important community hubs and local businesses in the area, including the operational headquarters of ABMT Group and Swisse.

Meetings with the Chair and the CEO of the Shrine of Remembrance and with the Honourable Justice Michelle Gordon AC also took place this week.

Staff from the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions and members of the public were welcomed on tours of the State Apartments, while the Kitchen Garden Program continued.

Today the Honourable Justice Michelle Gordon AC, Justice of the High Court of Australia, presided at the swearing-in of the Governor of Victoria as an Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia.

This important ceremony enables the Governor to administer the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia in the absence of the Governor‑General.

The Governor made an Affirmation of Allegiance followed by an Affirmation of Office before subscribing to the Affirmations - and is thereby now able to perform the functions of the Administrator if ever required in the future.

The instinct to lend a hand can be expressed in so many different ways.

At the Order of Australia investiture ceremonies at Government House this week, it was clear that public recognition that is often not sought, but always richly deserved.

Over three days many Victorians were recognised for their service and contributions – the value of which will continue to be felt for years to come.

During the week, attendance at the Naarm Architecture Foundation launch was also a chance to reflect on how the architecture of our time will shape the city that future generations inherit.

Meanwhile, groups from U3A Yarra Valley, Rural Youth Ambassadors and members of the public were all welcomed on tours of the State Apartments and Kitchen Garden.
