It's loneliness Awareness Week this week. Loneliness is not just an individuals issue, its a community issue. Feeling left out does cause physical pain. It's a good time to remember that a simple act of kindness - like smiling at people as you walk past them on the street - does change lives and makes your life better too!

This Loneliness Awareness Week (3–9 August), let's celebrate the small, everyday moments that help people feel seen, supported, and connected.

Join us at our Chatty Café on Wednesday 5 August at 10am for a relaxed and welcoming morning. Enjoy a cuppa, meet new people, have a chat, and discover how a simple conversation can brighten someone's day.

📍 Chelsea Heights Community Centre
🗓️ Weekly on Wednesdays
🕙 10am

Everyone is welcome! We look forward to seeing you there ☕

An update about Connect Local

Connect Local was built on the understanding that social connection is essential for wellbeing. Since the program launch back in May 2023, that approach has grown into something much bigger: supporting stronger connections and deeper partnerships, and helping create a more connected community across Glen Eira.

Connect Local has worked alongside a strong network of community organisations to support residents to build confidence, find belonging, and re‑engage with their community. The impact of this work has been felt not just by individuals, but across this network of community organisations. We are very proud of what has been achieved.

Connect Local will continue running until the end of October 2026. From 1 June 2026, we’ll no longer accept new referrals so the team can focus on supporting people who are already involved.

An evaluation is currently underway to capture the full impact and learnings. We already know from the personal stories shared that Connect Local has made a real difference in many people’s lives.

The need for social connection doesn’t go away. We’re hopeful the learnings from Connect Local will help shape the future of place‑based social connection programs locally and beyond.

We are grateful to the participants, community groups and services who have helped make local connection welcoming and possible.

We thank everyone who has been part of this journey.
