Your Place to Connect

Neighbourhood House Week celebrates the incredible work happening in local communities across Australia and the important role Neighbourhood Houses play in creating connection, support, learning, and belonging.

This year’s theme, “Your Place to Connect”, recognises these spaces as community lifelines — welcoming places outside of home and work where people can come together, share experiences, and build relationships.

🌿 Community Childcare Open Day
Meet our wonderful childcare educators, tour our beautiful space, chat with parents, and enjoy light refreshments.

💬 Dying to Talk: Conversations that Matter
Join us for a relaxed and respectful gathering led by trained volunteers from Mercy Palliative Care. Together, we’ll explore thoughts and feelings about death, dying, planning ahead, and what it means to live well.
Held alongside our weekly Soul House community lunch — a welcoming drop-in space for tea, coffee, food, and connection.

🍛 Learn to Cook: Indian Curry for Under $10
Join community member and chef Vishal for a budget-friendly cooking class and learn simple techniques to build rich, authentic flavour from scratch.

💐 Celebrate Mother’s Day with a fun afternoon of cooking! Join Inner West Thermomix for a special Mother’s Day Thermomix Cooking Class on Saturday 9 May, 2:00–3:30pm at West Footscray Neighbourhood House.

We’ll be cooking some delicious treats, sharing ideas, and having a great time together. Perfect for mums, families, and anyone who loves good food and good company 💕

Hi everyone! Just a quick heads-up that we at the Neighbourhood House will be taking a short break over the Easter long weekend to rest, recharge, and spend time with loved ones.

📅 Closed: Good Friday through Easter Monday
📅 Reopening: Toy Library will be back on Tuesday 07/04/2026, and Playgroup will be back on Friday 10/04/2026.

We’re so grateful for your continued support and being part of our community 💛 Wishing you all a safe, happy, and relaxing Easter filled with good company (and maybe a little chocolate too 🍫).

📚🌭 Location Update: Book Fair + Sausage Sizzle (Rain or Shine!)

Good news — the Book Fair & Sausage Sizzle is still going ahead this Saturday! 🎉
With some wet weather on the way, we’re moving the book fair indoors to keep things cosy and comfortable — while the sausage sizzle will still be happening outside 🌭

We wanted to let our community know that the following programs will not be running:

• Toy Library & Playgroup – Saturday 28 March

These sessions are cancelled as we prepare for the exciting Footscray West Writers Fest!

For Toy Library members, we encourage you to return toys on either:
• Thursday 26 March (before), or
• Tuesday 31 March (after)

Instead, join us on Saturday 28 March from 10am–2pm for our Neighbourhood House Book Fair & Sausage Sizzle 📚🌭
It’s not too late to donate books, and we’d love to see you there for a browse and a snag.

🛠️ Labour Day Closure – Monday 9 March

West Footscray Neighbourhood House will be closed on Monday 9 March for Labour Day (Victoria).

We’ll be back to our regular community programs from Tuesday 10 March.

Labour Day is a time to recognise the people who keep our communities running. We’d like to say a big thank you to all our Neighbourhood House workers and volunteers who put in so much time, care and effort to make our programs and activities happen week after week.

We see the hard work that goes in behind the scenes, and we’re grateful for everything you do for our community. ❤️

We hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved long weekend, and we look forward to seeing you back at the House from Tuesday!

📚🌭 Neighbourhood House Book Fair + Sausage Sizzle

We’re back! As part of the Footscray West Writers Fest, West Footscray Neighbourhood House is hosting our second annual Book Fair & Sausage Sizzle.

Last year’s event was a huge success, with a fantastic community turnout — and we’re hoping to make it even bigger this year!

🗓 Saturday 28 March
⏰ 10 AM – 2 PM
📍 Clarke Street Pop-Up, West Footscray
🎟 Free event

Come down, grab a sausage, and pick up a pre-loved book for a can of food for the Community Pantry or a gold coin donation. All funds go towards supporting West Footscray Neighbourhood House and our Community Pantry.

📖 Got books to spare?
We’re currently seeking donations of pre-loved books in good condition to help stock the fair. If you’ve got books ready for a new home, we’d love to take them off your hands!
