Happy Father's Day to all the father figures in our VMCH community! 💜

Today we celebrate the dads, grandfathers, stepdads, carers, mentors and role models who make a difference every day. Thank you for the care, strength, kindness and guidance you bring to the lives of those around you.

We also acknowledge that Father's Day can be a challenging time for many. To those who are remembering a loved one, missing a father figure, or finding today difficult, we're thinking of you and sending our support.

Wishing everyone in our community a meaningful day, whatever it looks like for you. ✨

August aged care wrap-up ✨

There was plenty happening across our residences in August. We celebrated Aged Care Employee Day, raised a cuppa for Daffodil Day, welcomed student volunteers, got our hands dirty with some gardening fun thanks to Bunnings, and enjoyed lots of music and dancing along the way. 💃🕺

Star of the Sea Aged Care Residence in Torquay hosted a Scam Watch Forum yesterday to help residents stay informed during Scams Awareness Week.

Local Federal Member Libby Coker MP facilitated the forum, with guest speaker Dr Daniel Mulino MP Assistant Treasurer, Minister for Financial Services and Federal Member for Fraser. Dr Mulino spoke about how older Australians are disproportionately affected by scams and the importance of recognising the warning signs, speaking up and reporting scams.

Residents shared examples of just how convincing scams can be. Shirley spoke about a friend who lost $20,000 to a bank scam and felt embarrassed because she had worked in banking during her career. Helen shared how a friend lost thousands of dollars after receiving a fake electricity bill.

An important takeaway was that there is no shame in falling victim to a scam. Even people with financial expertise can be caught out, and speaking up helps protect others.

Residents were encouraged to remember three simple words: Stop. Check. Protect. Warning signs can include unsolicited calls, emails or texts, pressure to act quickly, spelling mistakes, offers that seem too good to be true and requests to move a conversation to social media. A good blanket rule is to never click on a link in an unexpected message.

At VMCH, helping our communities build their cyber safety awareness is an important part of supporting people to stay informed, confident and safe.

If you think you have been targeted, contact your bank immediately, report the incident to Scamwatch and contact police.

After a quarter of a decade in with VMCH, Anne says it's the connections with residents that keep her coming back.

From warm welcomes after a few days off to being part of someone's extended family, it's the little moments that mean the most.

🎉 Two amazing milestones at Wantirna Aged Care Residence!

A huge happy birthday to Dorothy Dodd, who recently celebrated her 101st birthday, and Isa, who turned 100 surrounded by family and loved ones.

Dorothy's happiest memories include meeting her husband Jack and travelling around Australia in their caravan. Her secret to a great life?

"Just go along with life." ❤️

Isa was born in Burrigan, NSW, before moving to Melbourne in her 20s. She says her happiest moments are when the whole family comes together for Christmas, and she still loves getting up early to start the day.

Congratulations Dorothy and Isa on your incredible milestones. 🎂

🏆It was a proud night for VMCH at the Hospitality in Healthcare State Excellence Awards 2026.

Held in the Docklands last Friday, VMCH was recognised across four out of five award categories: Project of the Year, Leadership Award, Values in Action and Brilliance in Service.

Congratulations to Head Chef of Residential Aged Care Sanath Wanniarachchi and Chef Managers Kimi Power and Jasmine Bhangu for this well-deserved recognition.

A special congratulations to Jasmine, who took home the Brilliance in Service Award, acknowledging her outstanding commitment to our residents and dedication to hospitality excellence.
