A fair community looks after people when they most need support.

That’s why we are so pleased that Darebin councillors recently resolved to provide a long term funding agreement to Darebin Information, Volunteer and Resource Service (DIVRS).

Powered by volunteers, DIVRS supports people across Darebin who face disadvantage and hardship, providing emergency relief, food, no interest loans, energy bill support, assistance navigating service systems and much more.

Labor has always believed in the importance of investing in services that ensure no one is left behind.

This funding commitment is a positive step towards a fairer and more inclusive Darebin.

Great to see Darebin City Council unanimously support long-term funding and lease agreements for our neighbourhood houses. This gives these vital community organisations the certainty they need to plan ahead and continue supporting local people.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to participate in their community and access support when they need it.

Every day neighbourhood houses help make that a reality, reducing isolation and strengthening community connections. They provide volunteering opportunities, lifelong learning, social activities and practical support including food relief for people doing it tough.

Thank you to everyone who advocated for this outcome, and to the staff and volunteers whose dedication helps make Darebin a more connected, inclusive and caring community. 💪❤️
