The Person Centered Approach is the foundational approach of my practice as a social worker and in the world of therapeutic horticulture. Our work is all about the person, their potential, their goals, their strengths.

I've been wanting to share this quote and this side of Carl Rogers, that he was an avid gardener for some time. Carl who drew many metaphors from the garden to describe our growth, our needs and our potential. I'll be sharing more about the PCA in the coming week.

A gorgeous afternoon spent Heronswood to hear from speak about her new book "Why We Garden - On the joy & wonder of growing things". As the starting point for her book, Hannah conducted a survey of 1500 people on why we garden. 88% of participants sited mental health as one of the reasons 😃🌿 Was beautiful chatting with Hannah after the event on the overlap between the themes covered in her book and Therapeutic Horticulture 💚

Lots of wonderful meanderings around the exquisite gardens with two fellow Social Work peeps before and after. What a delight 🪷

On Sunday we enjoyed a fantastic and deeply connecting event in celebration of World Therapeutic Horticulture Day with &

Andrew Laidlaw, president of GGoP & lead architect inspired us with stories of the incredible work being done to create gardens in conflict areas internationally and in local communities through meaningful, person-centred engagement.

We were then privileged to explore the Botanical Gardens together while sharing rich conversations about creating meaningful therapeutic spaces, embedding story into gardens, and the healing power of memorial installations.

It was beautiful to see everyone connecting, engaging in thoughtful discussions, and enjoying the day together. A heartfelt thank you to the students and volunteers whose support helped make the event so special.

Melbourne weather we are ready for you 😃Looking forward to Sunday's celebration for World Therapeutic Horticulture Day with and

We will be gathering at the Tecoma Pavillion (enter through Tecoma gate) .

The Meetup will kick off with a chat with Andrew Laidlaw Head Landscape Architect of the gardens and president of Global Gardens of Peace. We'll talk about the inspirational work of GGoP locally and abroad creating restorative and healing garden spaces for communities and celebrate the diverse ways THA and GGoP support individuals, communities and each other to engage in the garden for wellbeing.

Our afternoon will include some TH themed activities, a warm brew and a meander through the gardens lead by Andrew including the Australian Drylands and Sensory Gardens and Fern Gully. BYO some treats to share (I may bake some lemonade scones 😋).

Spots are filling up fast so register ASAP if you haven't already Details in bio. And of course have a peak at the forecast in the morning and dress for comfort 🌿

On Tuesday we had a creative, fun and joyful time making gardens in a teacup in celebration of Mother's Day. We kicked off the event with some home-made lemonade scones with lashings of cream and jam of course.

I loved sharing this activity with local community members, who expressed their delight at the "art" they created. I'd never heard the gardens described this way before. There were so many smiles and great conversations and a lot of laughter.

Big gratitude to for funding this social and community gardening initiative. Can't wait for the next session where we get stuck into planting out our winter veg. Open to all local community members every Tuesday from 10-11:30am.

And a big shout out to Tiana PNH's student for your fabulous assistance on the day 😄🌿🙏🏼
