We regulate both registered and unregistered disability workers by setting professional standards, enforcing the Code of Conduct, and managing an independent complaints service.

Meet Senka – a 57 year old registered disability support worker based in the northern suburbs of Melbourne.

Senka qualified for registration with a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability), a Certificate IV in Mental Health, and a current NDIS clearance. She provides in-home support and community support and speaks English and Serbian.

For Senka, registration has brought practical benefits. She says it provides a valuable one-stop resource to access information and ongoing learning.

Happy Wear It Purple Day!

Wear It Purple Day (WIPD) is an annual event dedicated to fostering supportive, safe, empowering, and inclusive environments for young LGBTQIA+SB people.

This year’s theme "Colours of Courage" celebrates the many different forms of courage shown by LGBTQIA+SB young people, allies and communities every day.

By wearing purple, we show rainbow youth that they are celebrated, respected, and have the right to be proud of who they are.

There are many young LGBTQIA+ people with disability relying on disability services and you deserve respect and safety – if you ever feel disrespected, discriminated against, or unsafe, please contact the Commission on 1800 497 132.

Time’s running out to apply for one of the regional disability worker scholarships!

Are you a disability support work student living in regional or rural Victoria? Do you have an upcoming unpaid placement in a regional or rural area, or have you just completed one?

If yes, the Victorian Government wants to help you complete your unpaid placement, with payments of $3,500 available to support your studies.

‍Students with disability or from First Nations communities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Meet Corrine, a registered disability support worker from Melbourne's south-east.

Alongside a Certificate IV in Disability and a current NDIS clearance, Corinne is a qualified nurse with extensive sector experience as a Supported Independent Living supervisor and on-call coordinator.

Corrine chooses to be registered to access ongoing training and to demonstrate accountability in her field “I think it’s important to register as it shows that we are professionals in the field. I’m proud to be a registered disability worker.”

Registration with the VDWC supports a high-quality disability workforce by ensuring all Victorian registered disability workers:

• Comply with set standards of practice
• Are qualified and/or experienced
• Are assessed as suitable to hold registration by the Disability Worker Registration Board of Victoria

Disability worker registration goes beyond the NDIS Worker Screening Check by also assessing a person’s skills and experience and setting continuous professional development standards.
