Hi Everyone,
I would like to introduce a new counselling service Utano Psychosocial Services a culturally responsive, inclusive and holistic therapeutic service supporting clients 18+ years and we are based in the South East Melbourne, Australia and online.
We strongly advocate for those with quiet and silent voices that have been silenced/quietened as a result of life experiences and circumstances such as the impacts of cultural change, having a disability, mental health issues, family violence issues, and childhood trauma among other issues.
Our services can be provided via face to face or virtually to reduce and eliminate access barriers to receiving support.
We support NDIS self/plan managed participants with therapy and counselling.
The counselling team comprises of mental health clinicians/nurses and social work qualified counsellors with vast experience in Mental Health, Family Violence, Sexual Assault. Modalities and approaches include:
Cultural Awareness and Safety
Specialist offering for the Culturally & Linguistically Diverse Communities (CALD).
Trauma management
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Mindfulness-Based Strategies
Anger Management

When asked how we are, we typically say we are ok because often we think of our physical health as it is easy to identify and measure.

Considering our mental, emotional, social and spiritual health is important in achieving holistic health.

COVID-19 has made it more challenging therefore if you haven't already, connect (virtually or in-person if you can), with nature, a friend/s or family, be self-compassionate if things haven't gone your way and take a moment to express gratitude for the things that you have.

We move a step closer to optimal health when we acknowledge the role of culture, among other contributing factors, and our belief around health and healing. Culture is deep-rooted in how our families of origin and heritage, community and societal traditions and belief embrace or dismiss health and wellbeing.

How do you feel your culture has impacted your journey to optimal physical and mental wellbeing?
