Meeniyan-Stony Creek CFA hosted a Local Women’s Home Fire Safety Session, delivered by Hayley King, Captain of Yallourn North CFA, on November 19th.
Learning about the rate of fire spread in a modern home, using fire blankets, extinguisher knowledge and smoke detectors, attendees took home new awareness of how to reduce risks around their homes, strategies for containment fire as well as complementary fire blankets.
We know that women make a significant contribution to the buying decisions about household items; understanding how to make safer consumer decisions is where home safety begins.
Empowering households to minimise their risks is core business for CFA and we thank Hayley for her time and experience in supporting our Community Safety messages.
We will follow up with a practical session on Tuesday, November 25th at 7pm, where fire extinguishment will be demonstrated. Women in the community are invited to attend and bring a friend!

The CFA (Country Fire Authority) is urging farmers to take extra care to prevent haystack fires.

In the last week, thousands of hay bales have been lost in significant haystack and hay shed fires across regional Victoria.

Most haystack fires are caused by spontaneous combustion when hay is baled with excess moisture. This can create internal heat and lead to ignition.

If you’re a farmer producing hay bales this year, you can reduce the risk of haystack fires by:

💥 Using a temperature probe to monitor excess heat on the inside of hay bales.

🌾 Looking out for warning signs of heating hay, like condensation inside your hay shed or mould growth.

🔥 Storing hay bales away from farm equipment and other buildings to prevent the spread of fire. If storing in a hay shed, leave enough room for air circulation.

Due to a manufacturing defect, the threaded connection between the high-pressure fuel pump and the fuel rail may become loose. If this occurs, fuel may leak in the presence of an external ignition source and could result in a vehicle fire.

🚗 KIA BD Cerato and SP2 Seltos 2020 - 2022
The piston rings fitted to the engines of certain vehicles may not meet manufacturing specifications, and could cause engine failure and vehicle stalling. True story! Diversity makes our communities stronger and safer.
If you ever thought about joining your local brigade and thought you might not fit in, you will have what we need! Community safety needs people a big range of perspectives and experiences.
Firefighting is way more than getting on the end of a hose and there’s a role for you.

Meeniyan is renowned for being a beautiful town and the fire station garden is something we take pride in.
We would like to thank Rhiannon, manager of Leongatha’s Capeview Mitre 10 for the donation of two Cerinthoides Red plants for our renovated garden beds. They frame our flagpole area beautifully!
And thanking the members who have put their time and effort into the garden beds 🙏🏽

Our Juniors proudly and respectfully represented the Meeniyan-Stony Creek CFA on this ANZAC Day for the commemorative service. It was an honour to march with the organisations and groups that make up our town and wider community. We were reminded that the spirit of the ANZACs is to work together, stand up for one another and to serve for something bigger than ourselves.
Lest We Forget.
