Our stage 3 students are having a great time at their Canberra excursion - here's a sneak peak of today's activities!

Canberra Excursion – Day One over

Our Year 5 and 6 students have settled well into their accommodation after a very big and exciting first day in Canberra!

Today’s focus was on democracy and how our Australian Parliament works, with students visiting Parliament House and seeing democracy in action firsthand.

We were very fortunate to be welcomed by our Federal Member, the Hon. Andrew Gee MP, who took the time to meet with our students during their visit.

A real highlight was attending a very lively Question Time. Our students were seated in the public gallery inside the chamber, giving them an incredible view of proceedings. Things became quite spirited, with the Speaker having to call the chamber to order and one member even being removed from the chamber!

We then visited the Senate, where students witnessed an urgency vote taking place. It was an outstanding opportunity to see both houses of Parliament operating in real time and to experience firsthand many of the democratic processes they have been learning about at school.

What a fantastic first day of learning in our nation’s capital!

Year 5 & 6 Canberra Excursion:

Our Year 5 and 6 students are in Canberra today for an exciting and meaningful learning experience!

During their visit, students are learning firsthand about Australia’s experiences of war, the sacrifices made by those who served, and the importance of peace. These powerful learning opportunities help bring their classroom studies to life and deepen their understanding of our nation’s history.

Students are also visiting Parliament House, where they can see Australian democracy in action and learn more about how our country is governed.

What a wonderful opportunity for our students to explore, learn and experience some of Australia’s most significant national institutions.
